Dr. War ner Schmidt, of this city, has gone to St. Jacob to try and get some of the cream, .if possible, for analysis. MEMORIAL DAY. JOHSSTOW.N'M OBSERVANCE OF THt OLD TIME ORDER. A Fine Parade, Interesting Ceremonies, ami Eloquent Oration—Sandyvale Crowded With People—Many Journey to Grand View. The promise of rain as announced ir the indications for Friday was calcu lated to make our people fearful lest the well-planned observance for yesterday could not be held. But the clear sky, with only a few straggling clouds yester day morning dispelled the fears and the preparations were continued. The morning train brought the usual wild flowers from fr< m Mineral Pi.iut. They ware formed into appropriatt desigus. This occupied much time. Among the ladies who assisted at the work were Mrs, Iloupt, Higson, Cus ter, Beamish, Gribblc, Price, Hart, Barclay, Horrell, Louther, Overdorf, Dill, Chappel), Brown, West, Potts, Parflt, Hose, Piper, Park, and Tittle. The display of flags by the various business aud private bouses was fully as large as formerly. A noticeable dis| lay of evergreens and flags was made at the Seventh ward Band Ilall. The forming of the parade column oc. cupted the attention of the men having in charge the demonstration. A' 2 o'clock it movid up Maiu street and to Sandyvult cemetery in the following order: Escort of Twelve Policemen, chief Marshal and Aid. seventh Ward Band, company H.N. G. I*., St men. capt. Wonders. Morrellvllle Band, several councils, Jr. O. U. A. M. Knights of Friendship. Knights of the Golden Eagle. Eclipse Band. Assistant Marshal aud Aid. Band. Knights of St. George, Emerald Beneficial Association. G. A. R. Brum corps. Floral offerings, speer orr camp sons ot veterans. Hearse containing Flowers. Wagon With Flowers, carriage containing orator and Ministers, seventh Ward Brum corj s. Post 30, G. A, K. carriages containing soldiers and citizens. Arrived at the cemetery the columi opened and the hearse droye up to (hi soldier's circle, tollowed by the G. A. H. Sons of Veteians, Relief t orps, etc., am a great crowd of people. Not since las Memorial Day have there been so many people in Sandyvale at one time. The offerings to the unknown dead by the Sons of Veterans were a wreath ol snow balls, interspeised with peonies and a large Maltese cross of snow balls with t large peony in the centre. Both wen very [beautiful. The ceremonies at the sol diers' circle were the same as usually held there. They were interspersed with songi by the choir in charge of Hev. Cbas. L. E Caitwright. The songs were "Dropping From the Ranks One by Oue,""Covei Them Over," and "They Rest in Peace.' Flowers were strewn about the circle aud the usual three volleys tired. The G. A. R. and the crowd then re turned to the stand at the entrance to tin cemetery. Here the choir sang " Deco tion," after which thee was a prayer by Rev. James A. Lane. " Let Them Rest" was sung, aDd the Rev. H. L. Chapman introduced the orator, ex-Representative Brummer. of Pottsville. The oration was listened to with much attention. The flrst part referred to the great disaster of a year ago. Many of the auditors were visibly affected by that part of the address. The speaker devoted mucli of the remainder of bis remarks tc praising the soldiers for their noble achievement, while the concluding pari was occupied in deprecating the " re bellious " spirit, as lie called it, in the South exhibited by the people of that section iu the respect they show to the memory of their late leaders. Signs of rain caused the crowd to be gin to disperse before the oration was concluded. Several 01 the organizations, which owing toihe large crowd, were not able to get within hearing distance, marched off shortly after the speaker be gan. As the threatening clouds grew blacker more people left. Several dis tinct peals of thunder caused the speakei to cut short his remaiks, whereupon the crowd dispersed after the benediction had been pronounced. MARRIAGE LICENSES.
