Clem Clios nut in llustontown was the scene of a very pleasant. social event last Friday evening; and while the genial pre fessor may not be ac cused with having had anything to do with the getting up of it, he no doubt tou ml as much enjoy ment in the little gathering, as though he had been responsible for the whole business, lu fact, it was a surprise party gotten up in honor of the twentieth birth day anniversary of Miss Then a Wible, a most estiniab'e young lady, who is about to leave the vil lage aud join her parents in Frank lin county. The happy thought of giving ihis young lady this pleasant surprise was conceived by Mrs. House, who did the in viting, and so well had the a flairs been managed that Miss Wible Knew nothing of it until theguests began to arrive about eight o'clock. Last Friday at the home of Riley P. Sipes, lour mil's west of McConuellsburg, was a social event which celebrated the lifty tirst birthday of Mrs. D. LI. My ers and the twentieth of Mrs. Riley I'. Sipes. About 10 o'clock A. M. friends and neighbors te gan to arris e by twoes and threes, and latei in lamily groups, each bi inging boxes and baskets of good things tt eat. After greet ings and congratulations had been extended to the two in whoso honor the gathering had taken place, to the complete surprise of Mrs. Sipes, whose house was thus invaded, there was heard the bus tle and noise attendant on pre parations for a feast of goo i and substantial dannies. Au exten sive table was set in the large timing room which was soon lad en, and it did not take long to !ind occupants for eery seat. Once, twice aud thrice was each and every seat occupied aud again, a fourth time was most of the seats tilled by the happy people. Ice cream was served to all. ' After the feast ail engaged in pleasant chat and raillery, '.'itching horse shoes was one pastime in which James Fix and James Connelly Jr., were champions. The num ber assembled was forty. After a couple of hours of pleasant in tercourse and talk of old times, the presents ware produced which included many, both orna mental as well as useful for both Mrs. Myers and Mrs. Sipes.
