LkiI Miscellany. A knight cap a helmet. A rolling pin gathers no dough. The mosquito never takes a va cation. Pessimism is the grave digger of hope. The village cut up A country surgeon. Summer will be gone before we've had any. One way to kill time is to talk it to death. It is just as well not to borrow more than you need. It is often the purchasers who are sold at a bargain sale. Every man's enemy seems to be writing a book now a days. The fleas who locate on dogs' tails must jump at conclusions. The skeleton in the closet isn't so bad if it only stays there. Every young man with curly hair isn't a hero, by a long shot. A dead sure thing would be all right if it always came to life. A woman's most pleasant re flections come from her mirror. Like cures like, except in the case of the disease known as love. Some, people are too easily dis couraged by the good luck of oth ers. Love is a fire that is dreaded by those who have beeu burned. The summer girl is very fetch ing in her peek a boo shirt waist. The man who rides a hobby is apt to deride that of his neighbor. What can't be cured must be endured, even the cigarette hab it j Charity may cover a multitude of sins, but it can't hide the freckles. When the devil wants to take a rest he turns the mosquitoes loose. The dressmaker should know all about the eternal titness of things. It generally costs a girl a lot of energy to look cool and comforta ble. Some people remember the Sabbath to keep it wholly for themselves. The pig in clover is convinced that the sward is mightier than thn pen. Women cry over their troubles and men save their eyes by swear ing. The ballplayer who goes on bats isn't the one who does the most batting. When a girl doesn't flirt it is generally because the opportuni Xy is lacking. The average man who talks about not being appreciated is really a chump. One of the most diffcult things in the world is to convince a worn-! an that she snores. Neither the minister nor the divorce lawyer will admit that marriage Is a failure. The Post ottice authorities may object to the endless chain, but the bull dog doesn't. There are people who seem to take more interest in our affairs then we do ourselves. Self-preservation is the tirst law of nature, and most women try to look well preserved. When it comes to franchises there isn't much difference be tween a highway and a buy way. The fellow with more money than brains is u sally satisfied that things are as they are. Some men believe in making others respect them, even if they bave to do it with a club. The man who goes away on a vacation to get rest usually comes back with the same object in view. The average political candidate does not care so much for the na tion as ho does for the uomina. toon. West l)n Mil. Albert Kins, who Is employed with the P. If. K. in Altoon.:, und his fuitiily nr' xHii'liiigtf fwluvn with relatives here on their return from Atlantic City and Cnpe May. James Slmw, of Altoonu, is vis iting the family of Joseph Shaw. Sadie Ilockensmith, whose ill ness was noted some time ago, is not much improved. Zeldu Ijiiidig is recovering from scarlet rash. Owing to the inclement weather few of our people attended meet ing at llustontown Sunday. Some of the roads are getting in bud condition breakers too deep, washed out or filled up, and side drums not open, .so that the road beds are too low. We notice the above to be the ease with roads in other townships, too, possibly in a more marked degree. II. K. Stevens lost n mule one day lust week. Samuel Wible, Jr., of Licking Creek township, was a caller in our community on Sunday. NEEDMORE. The farmers complain of the over abundance of ruin. Yet we prefer that to the dry season. Cook is a jovjal good fellow, and ' we are always glad to see him around the old haunts. The show in our village last week brought quite a number of people to the place. Harry Peck, of Anibridge, Pa., was circulating among friends here Thursday and Friday. J. C. Mellott, while on his way from Hancock met with quite a serious' a"cident bv being? kicked with u horse. Lewis Harris, of Pig Cove Tan- cry, was seen strolling through the shady lanes with Prof. R N. Palmer. Be careful, boys, you are a suspicious looking pair. Mr. A. Hunyan and wife and Mrs. EHaniy Mann have been vis iting at the old Hunyan property along Sideling Hill and taking in the scenes of their early childhood. Bennett Mellott has the wall built for a new barn. He is s hustler, and keeps things moving. Two little boys of alker Mel lott are typical of American geni us. Their father was burning a lime kiln last week, and the boys modeled a miniature kiln, keeping a close watch on the large one, and succeeded in burning it. Our town .was enlivened a few evenings ago by music by the Fuirview Bund. We hud conclud ed that they wore uniong the "wrecked organizations" but they nre always ready when called up on. We suggest that some one of the "boys" write the history of the band. It would bo interesting to some of the charter members. . - Wells Tannery.
