From the pro gram we are led to believe it will be a very interesting gathering. Dr. West has suffered a whole lot more annoyance from the thoughtlessness of the fellow who sent that dispatch to the North American last week, than from his slight indisposition a couple of weeks ago. Whoever sent it knew better than to offer it'for trans mission at the telegraph office in this place. The fact, that when it appeared in theXorth American and in other papers, Dr. West I was in the midst of a week's spe- J rial services in his own church, j that he preached Friday evening Saturday afternoon, held com-: munion services Sunday morn- j ing, taught a Bible class iu Sun day school at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, assisted in conducting funeral services at 3 o'clock, at tended Christian Eudeavor at (5, aud preached at 7, and attended the public meeting of the Moral lie for m Association Monday even ing, would suggest that Dr. West is in the eujoyraent of about as much physical aud mental vigor as the average man. The wedding bolls so long ex pected, rang out merrily at last at the home of ( Jeo. W. Harnett near Hubbloivillo on Wednesday Feb. 4th, when Luella, daughter of O. W. Harnett, and Clyde A. Your correspondent didn't get a piece of that heavyweight gobler; yet he wishes the newly married couplo well just the same. Tinkypaw and Hooky took iu tho social at Well Tannery Sat urday night, s ' Him very satisfactory results, and from the Valley Spirit of a day or two ago we clip what Mr. Swanger says about that method as used by him and his son : "We prepared but one lot of two bushels to start on and from that we have obtained our seed from year to year without fur ther preparation of seed. I have no doubt that futher prepared seed will bo unnecessary for a long time. This was prepared in this way : We took seed from the garner, cleaned it on the mill and then put it in a kettle of water heated to 130 degrees, for live minutes, took it out of the kettle aud raised the heat to 135 degrees and put it in again for ten min utes, though the receipt says fif teen minutes. But, as many will want to prepare more than two bushels, say six bushels, I would recommend this way : Put 1 bushels in each of four old sacks, get good kindling wood aud when the wator is 130 degrees, dip the iirst lot for live minutes and the second for the same time then the third and fourth bags in or der, keeping the heat to 130 de crees, then raise the heat to 135 octrees and follow in the same order, giving each from ten to fif teen minutes. By this timo you will likely be surprised to see the water look like molasses water, especially if the seed is filled with smut. Lay the seed where air and sun can dry, raking it by times to aid the drying. With out much trouble we got our two bushels back to 2i bushels. We t lien set our superior drill to "i bushels, so the seeding was at ll;e rate of 2 bushels to the acre, fu the same proportion the six bushels would be djf bushels and the drill set to 21 bushels would Rood three acres. "As to whether we were afraid the seed would not come up I an swer : Yes, we were, but it did come up nicely, aud what is bet ter, since that we have had nice plump oats, clean, bright straw tmd no dust in threshing. "I am satisfied that if this or any other good method were used, the oats crop-of Franklin county could be raised fully 25 per cent. I have no oats for sale, Mr. Editor, but if any of my friends want to see a sample of oats from pi epared and also from unprepared seed I will be able to gratify them and then I think they will do likewise."
