In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this Ist day of I'Vhruarv, 1011.. G. lOI.DAAIT WILCOX (Seal.) D. F. MCCARTY tscait W. R. MASON (Seal! County Amltors. To Improve County Fairs. John Hamilton, farmers' insti tute specialist of (lie United States Department of Agriculture, lias just prepared a report advocating government help for county fairs. His ideas are principally along the line of using these fairs to demon strate the results of scientific farm ing to tin progressive agriculturists. The principal trouble with these fairs is not necessarily that vaude ville shows, balloon ascensions, and horse trotting are so promi nent. After the soluinn isolations of cross roads or hill town life, let the farmer have his fun once ;i year. The worst of the fairs is their tendency to routine. When the same old cattle from the same old barns from the same old farms re ceive the same old premiums every year, the effects on good farming is not very impressive. What is needed is to make the farmer see that by using the facts of modern science, he can make his soil and his domestic animals more productive.—-.Towanda Re view. Census Figures. Following is given the census re port of Sullivan County by towns and townships according to the otlicial fiigures of Director E. Dana Durand: Cherry, 281 (>; Col ley, 1098; Davidson, 14(14; Dushore, 813; Eagles Mere, 184; Elkland. 847; Forks, t>3.3; Forksville, KM); Fox, (>59; Hillsgrove, 558; Laporte Borough, 245; Laporte Township, 5(58; Shrewsbury 399; total 11,21).'!. The total population of the county is 841 less than ten years ago. It is difficult to tell whether Laporte's population has decreased or in creased in the last decade owing to the fact that the Tannery popu lation has in that time been changed from the Borough to the Township, but it the general opinion that there are more people in the borough than when the 1900 census was taken. Orchard Meeting. An orchard meeting was held on the farm of Jessie Kneller, near Dushore on March 24, by D. A. Knuppenberg and W. 11. Bullock, State Horticulture Inspectors, which was attended by about fifty interested persons. A practical * demonstration was given on prun ing and care of the orchard and the selection of a plot to start a young orchard. Mr. Kneller has 2,500 trees started on his farm which give evidence of future fruit fulness.
