One of the late improvements in town is a concrete sidewalk in front of the residences occupied by E. J. Mullen and T. E. Kennedy. Mrs. Phillip Karge is suffering from a severe injury sustainad by falling down a Might of stairs in the barn on her farm several miles from Laporte. In falling she struck her forehead indicting a painful wound. It was a closely tried | case. At a meeting of the Republican [county committee held at Laporte Saturday, the name of Mi. F. 11. Me j < 'arty was (withdrawn from the lo | rul ticket for the office of County j Commissioner and Mr. Win. 11. Rogers of Laporte wa unanimously I accepted to till the vacancy. Mr. ; Rogers is a man eminently qualified for this office and is well known to a I majority of tax payers of Sullivan county. The committee chose wise ly selecting him to assume the re sponsibility of a victorious battle at the polls next November. The saw mill of W.J. McCartney located between Laporte and Forks vilie was destroyed by tire Friday night of last*week and was not dis covered until the mill floor was all inflames. The origin of the fire is unknown as the mill had been care fully inspected by th<* foreman a half hour before the tire was dis covered. The mill and all its con- J tents was destroyed including a com plete equipment of machinery for manufacturing broom handles owned by Charle L. Wing on which no in surance was carried. The mill proper ty was insured for >1">00. The lire was prevented from reaching the lumber yard and only a small quan tity of lumber was consumed, it is reported that the mill will be re ! built in the near future.
