E. Church will serve an oyster supper on Fri day evening, December (5, in the basement of the Ingham mansion. Everybody cordially invited. Thousands of foreigners who have been at work on the railroads and in the mines in this country are re turning to their native lands for the winter. By industry and frugality many of these people are enabled to go back to their homes to spend the winter with their families, and where they can live much cheaper than they can in this country. The Altoona Gazette says its ridic ulous that the congressmen elected last year are only just taking then seats. Still, they have been draw ing pay since early last march, and they have earned it by not doing anything to the country in the meantime. A. C. Jenkins of Celestia, recent ly killed a mink in his chicken coop after the small animal had caused the death of a number of tine mi morca hens. At first Mr. Jenkins was unable to account for the death of his chickens antl thought it some disease, but when he went to the coop one morning antl found tive of his prize hens lying dead, he thought that some animal had caused their death. Accordingly he set a trap . and the next night he had the cul ' prit. The large mail order firm of Sears i Roebu k &. Co. of Chicago, has been i indicted in the United States courts I upon the charge of using the mails | for fraudulent purposes. The mem | bers of this tirm must now answer ' in court the same as any criminal , and the government will take steps ; to protect the public from deception J and fraud through the advertising | of such firms. ! The members of the society were very sorry to receive the resignation as treasurer of Mrs. Bradley, who will move to Dushore in the near luture. She has been one of the most active members of the society, and has very ably filled the office. Mrs. Smyth was elected to take her place. The society will meet with Mrs. Smyth next week. George Nelson who was tried at Williamsport for the murder of pa trolman Moloney of that city, in March last, on Wednesday was found guilty of murder 'n the second degree. CENTENNIAL. Merlin Small of Buffalo, is spend ing his vacation with his parents at this place. Herman Fritz was a busiuesw man at Laporte Saturday. Our school is progressing finely under the instructions of Miss Cook. The Nordmont (Jrange No. 1332 will give a chicken and oyster sup per on December 11. Mrs. Claud Fritz who has been ill is not improving very rapidly. The crowd that assembled at the home of diet Peterman last Friday night spent a very pleasant evening, all reporting a good time.
