A large number of citizens having responded to the call i it was decided that such an or ganization be formed- A number j of those in attendance spoke of the! assistance that could be rendered | business interests here by a Hoard of Trade and particularly in the de velopment of Lal'orte as a summer resort, by inducing parties to erect summer hotels and cottages here. It was decided to procede at once with the organization of the board and the following otllcers were elected.*— President, W. Mason; Vice Presi dent, It. A. Conklin; Secretary, F. \V. Meylert, Esq.; Treasurer, F. li. Ingham, Esq.; Trustees, Clias. L. Wing, T. J. Keeler; John L. Smyth. Five standing committees were appointed as follows: Committee on Promotion of Trade and Publici ty; Committee on Legislation; Com mittee on Streets and Public Grounds Finance Committee, and Committee on Water Supply and Fire Pro tection. The names of these committees in dicate in a general way the purpose and scope of the organization, the objects el which are the advance ment of the financial, business and municipal interests of the town. Particularly as a summer "resort, La- Porte possesses great possibilities. Each season witnesses a larger nuin berofsummer guests here. Already there is a demand for summer cott ages ut good rentals. With the pro per enterprise ond inducements, there is no reason why LaPorte should not entertain hundreds of people every summer. Splendid ho tel and cottage cites are obtainable at little cost and with proper en couragement and support from the citizens and others interested, many people seeking summer homes can be induced to locate here. The sum mer trade has already become quite extensive and last season there was a very pronounced increase in this direction. The Board of Trade, by lending its influence to the improving and beautifying of the town and by judicious advertising, can accomplish much good for this town. A large number ol public spirited citizens have already enrolled as members jand others are invited to join. | An exchange says it is unlawful to kill domesticated animals caught de stroying crops or other property.
