PROSPECTUS. —"Of making many books there is no end," and the multiplication of newspapers is the popular source of educat ing the people. We are aware that the idea is quite preyclent that Bradford County has too many papers, but with the large number not one is vvholy devoted to the interest of the great producing class—the agricultur ists —and at the urgent solicitation of some of the best practical farmers in the county, we have decided to commence about the first of the new year, a local agricultural weekly, especially adapted to the wants of the farmers of this section. The contributors to the paper will embrace the best practical farmers in the county, and we shall aim to make it of real value to every tiller of the soil, dairy- Iman and stock raiser in the county, by giv ing the results of experiments by those in whom the classes interested have confidence, and whose success in business is an evidence fo thorough practical knowledge. The paper will contain a condensation of the ironeral news and the fullest local notes. Fuller particulars hereafter. Buy tin; Waverly crackers. Elmirans of both sexes frequently visit the bright city of Wilkes-BarrePa., and it would be well for them to know the price of arti cles down there. The Union Leader relates that on Tuesday evening, Mayor BRODKRICK lixed the price of kisses there. A very pleas ant faced lady macje complaint that a worthy citizen kissed her three times against her wishes. The worthy citizen denied the soft impeachment. The party of the other side, however, testified under oath that lie hail done what she charged, whereupon the may or lined him $4.50 in gross, thus fixing the price of stolen kisses at one dollar and a half apiece.— Free Press. The latest new dances, adopted by the so-1 cicty of Professors of New York, and taught ! by all first class teachers, are: the "Ripple,'' i "Five Step Waltz," the "New Post," and the j " Lawn Tennis Quadrille"; all pretty dan- | ees, and popular among high toned people. Captain Jacob Schmidt, of Tompktnsville, | Staten Island, New York, suffered with se- j vero rheumatism for many years. He used j St. Jacobs Oil with splendid effect, and adopt ed it as a familv medicine. MICE THIS WINTER.—Mice are very pro lific; a single pair will often multiply to fiity or more during a single season, as the earlier j broods reproduce one or more generations. < Usually a large proportion of each summer's • growth is killed off in winter, if autumn rains ; saturate the soil. At this writing, the ground j is still dry, deep down, in several States. If at anv point the soil freezes solid before co" pious rains, extra caution should be taken to protect fruit trees and shrubs against mice. The methods we have often described, such as banking earth around the trees: tramping the snow hard about the trunks as it falls; putting tarred paper 4 to six inches above ground and a little below, etc. — American Agriculturist for December.
