October 13, IfR4l. . 3t-30 PROSPECTUS OF THE PEOPLE'S LHIRAR,Y MAGAZINE OF CHOICE AND ENTERTAIN- LNG LITERATURE A distinctive characteristic of the present age is the multiplication and cheapness of its literature. In every department of let tors new works are constantly falling from the press, and notwithstanding the extraor dinary'supply, the demand controlled with unabated activity. This is especially true of those lighter publications which convey instruction in agreeable anti attractive ferries, and supply n moms of recreation at the same tune that they offer facilities for improvement. Sciticelv a day passes in which some now woik of this description is not given the public, and though among the large number thus issued some may be Unworthy or useless, generally they are der serving of commendation. As Most of the publications referred to are printed in solid volitines, they are inac• cessible to the mass of those readers who are remote from large cities. The cost and the difficulty oftranspJrting books to places which do not lie an the great thoroughfares of the country, are such as to prevent their extensive circulation in the interior, and to make their pm ices so high, as to impose serious tax on all who purchase them. To obviate . in Soma degree this difficulty. and to place within the reach of all, the choicest portions of the entertaining literature of the day, the'.Subseriber intends to publish, in a forMsuitable for t ratisportat ion by the mails, hogirinieg'on the first day of October inst., a monthly periodical, to be called The People's Library, OR MAGAZINE OF CHOICE AND EN- • TERTAINING TITERATURE.
