Return of the Steamer Fux Iitlics the Franklin Expedition--Record of the Cruise Ditcovertd. The steamship Canada, at Halifax, brings Liverpool dates to the lilth, three days later than previous advices. The screw steamship Fox, Captain M'Clin (net, sent by Lady Franklin to the Arctic regions in search of the traces of Sir John Franklin's expedition, had returned to Eng land having been completely successful. At Point William, on the north west coast of King William's Island, a record was found, dated April 25th, 1848, signed by Captains Crozvcr and Fitz James. The record says the Erebus and Terror were abandoned three days previously n the ice, five leagues to the N. W.. 'and that the survivors, in all amounting to 105, were proceeding to the 7reat Fish River. Sir John Frauklin had fWon June 11th. 1S47, an I the total deaths Muate, had been nine officers ami fifteen men. .Many deeply interesting relics of the expedi tion were found on tho western shore ou King Williams Island, and others were " ob tained from the K.-tiuiiuaux, who stated that after their abandonment one of the ships was crushed in theic and another forced ashore The r'ox was unable to penetrate beyond Bel la's straits, and wintered in Hrentford Bay. Minute and interesting details of the expedi tion aie published. Several skeletons of Franklin's men, large umtiiie8 of clothing, Ac., and a duplicate record up to the aban donment of the ship, wrs discovered. SrECIAE. NOTICES. iv.-sa, ako common ic)t.t, like thieves in the sileni'e f the night, have carried many to the silfPt ;r.ive. They are caused by a sudden deck of ptrsporation, by which th stomach is rfndorrd inactive, and the lungs become loaded with corrupted matter, which enters the bbxxl, and tlie dpsoase is the result. For all colds, onghs, ami ihills. sueceeiled by heat, and for ail J'eirs of every form hoaisness and rawness f the tliroat, lungs and stomach, and for all weakness and sickness of every kind, from three 1 1 five of these Pills on going to bed, for a few 'lay", will be all you require to restore you to perf t health. It has Ik'cu admitted and claim td all over Europe, that there never "was medi nw, that will exterpatu all manner of disease fr.ini the system, equal to Dr. Morse's Indian JNt Pills;" that the nmv yon take them, the .ronrr yoii grow. They arc founded upon the principle that the human bly is subject to but oneiliwase, namely: corrupt humors. These Pills tonly cleanse th- boweis. but also follow the Wod through cverv vion and artery, and so pu r.fy it from all morbid and corrupt humors, that disuse of every name is driven from the body. crin The scmmkr that has iust passed a- way, thousands of sufferers from dysentery and liirrh(ra have been relieved bv the use of HO STETTER'S BITTERS, a medicine which is ev iJently destined to maintain a permanent place ia the public estimation. Bilious diarrhcea is ne of those diseases which baffles the skill of the l'hysician. The medicine they administer to act upon the bowels never seem to reach the iurco of the evil. The difficulty is to gut n re K!y that will reach all the digestive organs, and jive them simultaneously a rush of vigor, to tuhemselvesofthisdesea.se. Lhe problem is red by the Bittkrs, which never fails to con oir the most stubborn cases. It is only to say t'at duriua; the season just closed, this medicine Us achieved more cures than any other ever presented to the public, and during the fall, iiich that terrible scourage, the fever and ague iso prevalent, the Bittkus will gain fresh fice. ' HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES, No, 502 BROADWAY. . THE GREAT FEATURE Of this series of Domestic Remedies is that each particular medicine is a Specific for the partu ular disease or class of disease whose name it bears, and may ' be relied upon for the cure of that particular affection. - Hence, persons suffer ing from a chronic disease or long-standing ail ment, in buying a case of Uumphkey's Specifics obtain the pa'ticular one desired in their case and thus themselves make a cure which other wise would cost them many dollars, and no small amount of time and medical attendance, if, in deed, it could be obtained at all. 1 bus multitudes suffer from Dtspepsia, Bil ious lXXDITIOV. IjOSTIVESESS, uAD 1ASTE, Coated Tongl'e and Debility, which is per fectly controlled and cured by the DYSPEPSIA SPECIFIC. There is scarcely a phase or form of this dis ease which is not promptly controlled and nlti mately cured by the use of thin Specific. 1 hous ands who have suffered for years with this Bilious Condition" having purchased a case of these Specifics, have obtained a perfect cure and immunity from their old complaint. COUGHS, COLDS AND SORE THROATS, which so frequently lead to BRONCHITIS AND CONSUMPTION are all in their early stage secured by the .. COUGH PILLS. Many cases of long standing Bronchitis and irri tating Coughs have been perfectly cured by this Specific. Rut more ! many persons have a spe cific liability to colds and take then from the least exposure. This will be entir jly relieved by the use of the COUGH PILLS, as scores cau testify from experience. ISo CATARRH is one of our most common and most troublesome diseases, against, which the Old School Medicines and even Homeopathic prescriptions, are of vciy lit tie use. Yet hundreds of persons have been cured of not only recent and -fresh, but even long standing and " obstinate, cases of CATARRH by the use of this specific. One aged lady in Syracuse was thus perfectly cured of a Catarrh, which had annoyed her all her life. And a young lady at one of our first class boarding schools, who was so afflicted with this disease as to require more than fort' hand kerchiefs a week, was entirely cured in a single week by this Specific. - PILES, bleeding aud blind, some of those common and obstinate forms of disease which are so difficult to cure by the ordinary methods, but which find an entire ami fundamental cure in the Piles Spe cific. True, time is required ; but the Specificis pleasant to take, requires neither dist nor re straint, and being followed up a perfect cure is the result. Hundreds of persons, in purchasin a case of Specifics, have obtained a cure for this m jst trying and obstinate lorm of disease, which lms been worth to them ten times the cost of the entire set. Cases of over twenty years' stand- ing have beeu cured by th-s simple Specific, and we believe may be cured by perseverance. The case contains the best - FEVER AND AGUE SPECIFIC known. A remedy without any deleterious or poisonous substance, which not only cures the ague, and old, mismanaged agues, but may be relied upon as a preventive when persons are re siding in a fever and ague district. It prt vents or protects upon the same pri'ici pie that vaccina tion prevents small pox or belladonea prevents scarlet fever, by pre occupying the -stcra with the true Specific. Hundreds have been thus protected and cured. THE OPTHALMY SPECIFIC has proved a mst invaluable remedy for SORE EYES and EYELIDS, and for WEAK and BLURRED SIGHT. One lady iu Indiana, v1h bad' been a sufferer from sore eyes fr many years, and for two years was entirely blind. Mas cured perfectly by the Opthalrny Specific sdone. HEADACHES, to which so many ate subject, find a curative iii the case. There is a specific which relieves fit the time of the attack, and also one which cor rects the condition of the system upon which it depends, a:;d so destroys the predispotition to : returc. The specifics for the various forms of FEMALE COMPLAINTS have proved invaluable. Ui.d long standing LEOCORRHOJA or WHITES, attended with debility oi exhaustion, and for which other form; of medicine are of little value, are hilly controlled and cured by the FEMALE PILLS," while the specific for iBi:Eftri..KiTiKs control almost every form of SCANTY, PAINKCL or IRREGULAR J1KN STRUATION. DIARRHOEAS AND SUMMER COMPLAINTS in adults or children are controlled like magic by the DiAiuuiaiA Pills, while it may bj averred withou the possibility of successful contradiction that the DrsKxTEY Pij ls are the taoct perfect Specific for that disease known. Fi.r the various forms of FEVERS, SCARLET FEVER, MEASLES, -and other ?i.-.eascs of chihben, the Ftvtu PlLLS may be safely and surely relied upon. These Specifics are the prescriptions of Prof. HUMPHREYS, used for years in his extensive practice, an! to the perfection of which he has devoted the resources of extensive knowledge, ex peri' nee' and study. The public may rest assured that during the lifetime of Dr. 11. no one has been or shall be intrusted with the preparation of his Specifics, and he offers the guaraut' of his professional life and reputation thit they shall be just as he rep roseuts them. They have now been before the public f.r five years, and have ever where won golden opinions from the many thousands who have used them. Simple, free fn-m intricacy, technicality, or danger, they have become tho ready recourse s nd aid of the parent, traveler, nur.-e, or invalid, and have become the family physician and medical adviser of thousands of families. Nowhere have they been tried without having been approved and their highest appreciation is among those who have known them longest cud most imi mattly. Every family will fiud these SPECIFICS all they have been recommended ; piiompt, unlia ble, simple and eeficacious : often a fkiend is need aud a friend isdf.ed. LIST OF SPECIFIC REMEDIES. No. 1. Pr jthy'd offi :c. E'oousbarg, June 29, I8ui). tf HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS- It is a fact that, at some period, every mem ber of the human family is subject to disease or disturbance of the bodily functions; but, with the aid of a good tonic and the exerciso of plain common sense, they may be able so to regulate the system as to secure permanent health. In order to -accomplish this desired object, tho true course to pursue is certaiidy that which will produce a natural elate of things at the least hazard of vital btrcngth nl life. For this purpose, lr. Hosteller has in troduced to this country a preparation bearing his name, which is not a new medicine, but ouo that has been tried for years, ghiug satisfac tion to all who have used it. The Bitters operate powerfully upon the btomiich, bowels, and liver, restoring them to a healthy and vigorous action, and thus, by the simple pro cess of strengthening nature, enable the sys tem to triumph over disensc. For the cure of Dyspepsia, Indigestion, Nau sea, Flatulency, Loss of Appetite, or any Bilious Complaints arising from a morbid inaction of the Stomach or Bowels, producing Cramps, Dysentery, Colio, Cholera Morbus, &v.., these Bitters have no equal. . Diarrhoea, dysentery or Sax, to generally con tracted by new settlers, and caused principally by the change of water aad diet, will be speedily regulated by a brief use cf this preparation. Dyspepsia, a disease which is probably inore prevalent, in all its various forms, than any other, and the cause of which may always be attributed to derangements cf the digestive organs, can ne cured without fail by using HOSTETTER'S GTOMACII BITTERi?, as per directions on the bottle. For this disease every pli vsiciau will recommend Bitters of some kind ; then why not use an article known to be infal lible ? All nations have their Bitters, as u pre ventive of disease and strengtheuer of the sys tem in general ; and among them all there is not to bo found a mere healthy people than the Germans, from whom this preparation ema nated, based upon scientific experiments which hava tended to prove the value of thia great preparation iu the scale of medical science. Fever and Aau. This trying and provok ing disease, which fixes its relentless, grasp on the body of man, reducing him to a mere eha dow in a short time, end rendering him phy sically and mentally useless, can be driven from ihc bodv by the use of HOSTETTER'S RENOWNED BITTERS. Further, none of tha above-stated diseases can be contracted, even in exposed situations, if the Bitters are used as per directions. And as they neither create nausea nor offend the palate, and render un necessary any change of diet or interruption of ordinary pursuits, but promote sound sleep and healthy digestion, the complaint is re moved as speedily as is consistent with the pro duction of a thorough and permanent cure. For Persona in Advanced Years, who aro suffering from an enfeebled constitution and infirm body, these Bitters are invaluable as a restorative of strength oud vigor, and need only bo tried to bo appreciated. And to a mother while nursing these Bitters are indis pensable, especially where the mother's nour ishment is inadequate to lhe demands of tho child, consequently her strength must yield, and here it is where a good tonic, snch r.s llostettcr's Stomach Bitters, is needed to impart temporary strength and vigor to the system. Ladies should by all means try this remedy far all cases of debility, sad, before so doing, xliould ask their physician, -who, if he i acquainted with the virtue of lhe Bitters, will recommend their use in ail eases of weakness.
