The Bouuty Land Law. ! We learn from the Pension Office, says the Naiional Intelligencer, that in answer to various inquiries relative to the Bounty Land Act of September 28, 1850, deci sions have been made as follows : I. That where the service has been rendered by a substitute, he is the person entitled to the benefit, and not his employ er. 2. That the widow of a soldier who has rendered the service required by law i entitled to bounty land, provided she was a widow at the passage of the law, al though she may have been married several tme3;or although her marriage :o the offi cer orsolditr may have token place after he left the service; but if not a widow when the law passed, the benefit of the act in sures to ihe minor children of the deceased soldier. 3. That no soldier is entitled to more than one wairant under this act, although he may have served several terms; but, where a soldier has served several terms, he will receive a warrant for the greatest quantity of land to which the several terms consol idated will entitle him. 5. In all cases where anv portion of the marine corns ir. the several wars referred to in the act of the 28th cf September, 18G0, were em bodied with the army in the fielJ, and performed service as a portion of the line cf the array, the marines who so served, if they served the time required by law, and were honor? b?y dischacd, arc; enti tled to land. Persons who were engaged in the removal of the Cher ckees from Georgia in 1830, or in remo ving Indians at any time, are not entitled to land. ART INTELLIGENCE. Amkeicans in Rome. A correspon dent of the London Athcnaeam says the Americans seem to be the only people in Rome who are suffered to exhibit their political, artistic and religious heresies vrith impunity. Power's emblamatic stat ue of the United States is progressing, and Mr. Crawford's design for a monu ment to Washington, is described by him as follows: The design for which a hun dred thousand dollars is to be paid, is ori ginal and striking. From the centre of a huje block, of granite, cut into the form of a star with six rays, rists a pedestal, upon which stands an equistiian statue of the Legislator, sixteen feet in height. The six points of the star are surmounted by six collossal statues one of them an alle gorical figure of Virginia, the hero's birth place three of them statues of distin guished Generals, who were his compan ions in aims the other two representing Sta:csmen who were connected with him in the great struggle, and succeeded him in the office of President. The casting, it is said, will be done either in Paris or Mu nich. All the figures, except thit of Vir ginia, are to be done in brenze. The writer says the Americans have just ob tained permission to build a Protestant church the first ever permitted in the Eternal City. Their architects are now at work and in a short lime the edifice vsi rear its head in the neighborhood of the ancient tom! of Augustus, and in the very Via de Pontifici ! p aij JUg u asri , wanaM dib:i On the 10th inst., Martha McDermit, at the residence of her brother in Clear field township.
