The Lower House of Legislature last winter ou tbe Boom question scandal ised this Stats as it never had been scandalized before. McL-MOnLIX AND Spasogle, the Republican candidates for the office of Associate Judge, are competent men, vorthy in every sense o' a full vote of tbe party. Vote for them and get all you can to do likewise. Tbe following is tbe result of a vote taken on the J nniata Excursion Train which left Mifflin on Tuesday, October 24, 137G: Hayes, 137; Tiiden, 112; Cooper, 1 ; Smith, 1. The vote was taken by Matthew Rogers and J. G. Uertzler. Tbe Tiiden policy seems to be an outrage all tbe way through. In the South it is violence, and wherever it is possible in tbe North, frauds in tax receipts and naturalization papeas, and false registry appear to be the mediums. Fifty thousand false registers have been made in New York city and Brooklyn. Men sometimes carry the plea into election canvasses, that this and that man should be elected because of mis fortunes in life. If such considerations enter into the present canvass, Captain McClellan should be elected by a large majority. If you are governed by such consideration you will not hesitate a moment in voting for him. But, lay ing aside bis misfortunes, he has ment, which entitles him to (be consideration of his fellow-citizens. He will make m efficient Sheriff. Democratic editors and Democntic speakers will use Mr. Tilden'a letter of last week largely to convince their readers and bearers that no outhetn claims will be allowed rayiuent if the Dtuioeracj pet into power. Mr. Steng er and Mr. Jtdckalew will talk of it at their meeting here ; but the fact is the letter is forth no more than the decla ration of Mr. Tiiden, in 1SGC, when he insisted that that there was Do danger of Rebellion. It is worth no more than the speeches of Jeff Davis Wben lie declared in tbe United States Sen ate that he had as much loyalty in him as ant member in the Senate, and that all be did be bad a Constitutional right to do, and all Interference with the South was unconstitutional. If Mr. Tildcn and Lis friends get into power tbey will pronounce all the people who did not act with them as unconconsti tatmnal workers. Tbe claims, after that, will not be bard to take. Ma. McAlister, tbe Republican nominee for Assembly, has lived all his days in this county. He has been a tax payer all of bit, life. Of all the public improvements in the county he has boine bis share ; and the amount thus expeuded in his lifetime i no small sum. lie should not only poll the full vote of bis party, but how a large number of his political oppo nents can get over voting for him is a question. He is one of tbe few old school men left in this connty, and by electing him to the Legislature we would be paying a cortpliaient to the honesty and worth of a past genera tion. Cit'xens of Juniata county, elect him. A MMBER of Southern preachers have addressed Presideut Grant, pro testing against the sending of troops iuto the South to prevent bloodshed and not. They declare that it is a viola tion of Slate Righis. Tbey are as in consistent as inconsistetcy itself. They belong to tbe class of preachers that pleached the divinity of slavery. Tbey belong to the ca.ue class of preachers that stood by, without a word to say, when a single slave escaped to Boston in the year 1851, and a South ern Administration sent United Slates troops and the United States navy down ihcrtf to catch "that nigger." When tbe troops inarched onto the soil of Massachusetts and the navy entered the waters of that State, they applaud ed the act, and did uot protest that it was an act of violence of State Rights : and that was only to catch oue '-nigger," aud was not to preserve order and pre vent bloodshed. They are the same set .f preachers who turned the sanctity ot tbe marriage tie or contract into a farce. They are the t-auie set of preachers who would marry ' Sambo " and "-Dinah," and declare them man and wife in the presence of the master, and declare it all divine, when they knew that that verv hour the master conld fend "Saiubo" to Virginia and Dinah" to Texas. They looked with no higher motive on tne nmon of the con pie than a stock-brerder look on the mixing of cattle. Out on such hypo critical religion. If those preachers believe in the Southern form of civili zation, as they have a right to believe, if they chosn let them say so, and be respected But in the name of con sistency and integrity, let them aban don their effort to snpport the cause throngh a fulso issue. It brings them selves and church into contempt Ax exchange writes to the young men who are about to cast their first vote as follows : j There will go to tbe ballot boxes on the 7th of November a great body of young men who will cast their uiaideu votee. It is a geueramn ot voiers who have reached maturity ten years alter tbe civil war. U ben in 1M1 tbe shot hred at Sumtci was the signal fur the mustering of the hostile toices, these now first voters were but six years old, and when the contest ended they were only ten year old. Therefore, the re membrance of the events, which to us who passed throngh that period long after our beatds were grown is fresh and clear, to them is misty and almost a thing of written history only. They have learned at schools of victories and defeats which alternately cheered and depressed us. aud tbe war is to tberu simply a childish memory of armed men marching away wilb banners and with music. They lost tbe education of that great conflict, which is one of the trea sures of those who lived throngh it and shared in it as grown men. But per haps better than we, they can contem plate it in perspective, and view the war with no other than the prejudices which the opinions of their elders may have cieatcd in them. These fresh voters cm decide the election. What will the young men do ? Do they in tend to ad in exalting to power the rebels who forced their fathers to go to war to save their nation ? Are their euemies more dear to them than the land of their fathers' valor and sacri ccs saved to freedom ? These are ques tions otir young voters would do well to ponder. On Saturday evening last a portion of tbe detective force of the city of Philadelphia was employed in looking up a party of leading Democrats, who were issuing fraudulent tax receipts. The police did not succeed in catching all of the parties. The two most im portant arrests so far are Samuel Jo sephs and Henry Marcus. Tbey have been held in $5,000 bail for violating the election law. The fraudulent re ceipts were intended for circulation in Philadelphia, and in the counties of Schuylkill. Luzerne, Dauphin, Mont gomery, Lehigh, Northampton, North umberland, Columbia, and all the mining districts. Tub Democrats lost their Secretary of State in Ohio, who was nomiiated for his own successor. They lost the whole State ticket by a large majority. Tbey lost five of their Congressmen, and carried at least three of tbe rest by barefaced frauds. They elected a Demo cratic successor to the Democratic Gov ernor in Indiana, at a loss of 21,000 on their majority. They lost four Congress men.
