It will be seen from these proceedings that although Philadelphia has at last bo- gun to rub her eyes open, she has not, as was reprcscuted, actually subscribed S2, - 000,000 to the S. & E. We have been permitted to make the follow ing extracts from a Irllrr received in town last week from one of the l.ewisbur Cahl'ornians. it will interest many of our readers. r.n.j Mission San Jose, Dec. 22, '52 I arrived here last Thursday- after being two months on the road from Philadelphia. All our party enjoyed good health during the trip, and are well now. Samuel Strawbridge, did not come up to this place ; he went to Sacramento. The rest are stopping here for the present. What thoy intend to do, or where they are going, I can not Fay. We fell in with Wm. Jones, Harrises, and fcnsil, at Aca pulco. They came up from Panama, on the " New Orleans," and we having se cured cabin passages, with the privilege of sleeping anywhere we could fiud a place We came up together te San Francisco ; Jones came up here with our party ; and Harrises and Pensil went up to Sacramen to, and from thence they purposed going to some of the Northern mines'. It rained the day we arrived in San Francisco and has been raiuing nearly every day since. Tbe bills near the Mission for several mor nings past have been tipped with snow, which wakes the air somewhat cool. You nay perhaps ask bow I like Cali fornia J So far as I have seen it, I like it very much! The country around the Mission is beautiful, as much so as any country 1 have ever seen. The grass is just commencing to grow, and in a few Thearmc"iarel)usy"pf6ugTiing wTieTfever the rain permits them. There will be a large amount of wheat sown in this coun try this season, in consequeuce of the high price of breadstuff's. Wheat is selling now at 11 and 15 cts. per lb., and flour 45.00 per barrel.
