MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1950 TUB, PUB Provide Recreational Facilities In Lieu Of SU Building Until the Student Union building becomes a reality, Penn State men and women will be spending a good deal of their spare time in the Temporary Union Building, popularly known around cam pus as the TUB. • The men in the Nittany-Pollock area will find additional recreation facilities for their use in the Pollock Union Building, or PUB. Women students may relax and entertain themselves at White Hall. The TUB, located on Short lidge Boad behind the College Infirmary, has twin lounges in each wing, a • main lounge, .a good-sized dance floor, a stage, and -game facilities. Playing cards, checkers, table tennis, and other games are •available. Has Snack Bar , • A snack bar located in the -main lounge offers ice cream; coffee, and candy. Several soft drink and cigarette vending ma chines also are located around the building. A juke box pro vides music for listening or danc• ing, and pinball machines are available for their enthusiasts. Also housed in the TUB is the Student Book Exchange. The TUB was purchased and brought to the cainpus from Leb• anon, where it had served as a USO center during World War•Lt On week days the TUB will be open fFom 8 . a.m. to 10 p.m., • and on FFidays•and Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to -1 a:m.. Sunday hours are, from , 2 to 10 p.m. • The PUB, for men only, and located in the middle of Pollock Circle, offers a lounge where men can play cards, checkers, and chess. Also housed in the PUB is the main office of the Student Dry Cleaning Agency. Hours for the PUB are the same as those of the TUB. Mary Beaver White Hall, com monly called White Hall, was built with •the relaxation and enjoyment of the co-ed in view. Built In 1938 Constructed in 1938, the build ing not only houses women's, physical education and 'recrea= tion classes, but also offers rec.; reational facilities for the indi vidual Woman, as well as for , clubs and organizations. The large gymnasium in the center of the building has room. for three basketball courts, and also is used for badminton and indoor tennis. To the left of the gym is "the rhythm room, where classes in rhythmic fundamentals, modern dance, and square-dancing are taught. Table tennis and bridge facili ties are located in the playroom, which .is open to the co-eds at all times. White Hall also features a 75- foot-long, 135,000-gallon ° swim ming pool, from three to ten feet deep.
