‘Philipsburg. ——————————— et ete ee tenes tsa GOD SPEED THE PLOW. God speed the plow-share! tell me not Disgrace attends the toil Of those who plow the dark green sod, Or till the fruitful soil. ‘Why should the honest plowman shirk From mingling in the van Of learning and of wisdom, since 'Tis mind that makes the man ? God speed the plow-share! and the hands That till the fruitful earth, For there is in this world so wide No gem like honest worth, And though the hands are dark with toil And flushed the manly brow, It matters not, for God will bless The labors of the plow. . <> MEETING OF EXECUTIVE COM. MITTEE. At a meeting of Executive Committee on Wednesday, the 4th of August, 1875, Mr. Jo W. Packer was elected as Su- perintendent of the 2d Department of Agricultural and Horticultural Products, vice S. B. LeaTners declined. The report of Messrs. Harris, Hicks and SHUGERT, committee on the half-mile track, was presented as follows : To the President and Officers of the Centre County Agricultural Society : The undersigned, committee appointed to ascertain the additional amount of land re- quired to enlarge the present track or course on grounds of the Society to one-half mile and the cost of the same, would beg leave to report: That they have examined the ground, and had a number of interviews with GARBRICK & CoLE, the owners of the land west, and ascertained that eichtv feet in width, the entire length of the Society grounds, including the dwelling of Mr. GAR- BRICK, can be purchased for $2,000, and not less: and that amount not being sufficient for the pronosed enlargement in accordance with the rules of the National Trotting As- sociation, your committee are of the oninion that the money would be more profitably expended by making a half-mile track on the present ground in shape of the figure 8, or similar to the West Chester track. which is thought to be a very good one. We be- lieve this can be done, but ‘did not feel au- thorized to employ an engineer to ascertain definitely. Respectfully submitted, : JN0. HARRIS, TrOMAS A. HICKS, J. D. SHUGERT.
