The loss is estimated at about $5,000.. ..Tho new Catholic church at Carrolltown was dedi cated on Tuesday. The President has pardoned William Johnson, of Altoona, uo arose and pursued the direction indi who was tried at Pittsburg a couple of Cated by the index finger. To niako a months sines and convicted of dealing iu counterfeit Government money. The petition for pardon was signed by prom inent citizens of this State without regard to party, and by large numbers of the citi zens of Blair, Cambria, and adjoining counties. He had passed one bill, and when arrested had another in his posses&ion. He Favs he cot the money from his father, who gave bail for his ap , 1 pearancc for a hearing to-day. Thompson, the murderer of young Mc Donald, has not yet been arrested. lie is hiding in the mountains west of town, and has sent in a deCanco for the people to come and arrest him. A party of some twenty went to huut him yesterday, with what result I have not learned. The Sheriff offers 200 reward and Mr. Mc Donald 50 reward for his capture. Wright and Walters, lately convicted before the U. S. Court at Pittsburg of shoving counterfeit money in this place, have been sentenced as follows Wright to pay a fine of i 3,500 and undergo ten years imprisonment in the Western Peui tentiary ; Walters to pay a fine of $3,000 and servo the same term in the same in stitution. To ih Editor of The Alleghanian The Highland base ball club of this place played a social game with the Mi ners' Club of Gallitiin, at the latter place, on Friday, 1st inst. Only four innings were played, resulting as follows i High landers 3&, Miners 25. The trip was a very pleasant one to the Highlanders, one and al) coming away with the belief that a better or more whole-souled set of fel lows than the Gallitzin bojs do not live above ground. The return game between the two clubs was played here last Saturday. After a hard contest, it resulted in favor of the Highlanders. The visiting club were quartered at the "Grant House," where every possible attention was paid to their comfort by the excellent host and kind hostess.
