Consequences of "Wearino a New Hat. -The following queer Etory is copied from the correspondence of tbe Chicago Tribune : Let rao relate an tdveulcre that an honest FreDchmaD from the rural district had not many days since. " About three weeks . ago a well-dreesed per-tleuian, ipeaking xrench with a decidedly Knghch accent, entered a hatmaker'fl shop on the eld Boulevards, and left an order for cix tifi-brimined hats. He wanted thcra made-alike a model of a peculiar fchspe, which he brought with him, and to be trimmed with a ribbon of a certain color. He left a separate measure for each. The order was called for by the stranger. The hatmaker, thinking that tbe bats were a fashion just out in London and that there might be a demand of the fame ort, had manufactured two additional nea. These be placed in the how ease which he had at the exposition, duly la beled, "the latest Ecglisb. style." "Well, the honest Gallic countryman re ferred to, who had come to l'am with his apouse to see the wonders of the Champ de Mars, happened to pass the window, saw the hats in the show-case, and taking a fancy to them, bought one on the spot. The next day, while again sauntering through the Talace with hi better halt, adorned with hi3 new headgear, an un known individual suddenly rubbed against him, whispered some unintelligible words in his ear, and tben rapidly passed on. Th Frenchman did nut know what to make of it, but finally came to the conclu sion that the stranger bad made a mistake, and continued his walk. After a while he felt like giving his nose the habitual tickle with a dose of snuff, and put his hand in his outer pocket for his box. To his astonishment he felt another object brides the latter. - lie pulled it out, and lo ! he beheld a fine gold watch and chain. Puzzled beyond measure at the discovery, he made for a policeman whom he noticed near by, and told him his adventure. The latter smiled significantly, told him that ho thought ho understood the case, and invited him to go to the police head quarters in the periphery of the Palaco. On entering the room of the "Commis Eaire," the first person he saw was the individual that had accosted him so un ceremoniously a few minutes before, wear ing, as he now observed, an-exact count erpart to his hat. The "Commissaire" soon solved- the mystery for him. The fellow with the fac simile hat was a mem ber of a band of English pickpockets who tad adopted the peculiar stylo of head cover for better mutual recognition. Seeing the Frenchman's hat, but not his facfi, he thought he was one of t tie band, and slipped the watch he had just stolen into his pocket for cafe-keeping. A few minutes later he was caught in tbo act of trying to steal another watch, and imme diately conducted to the "CominiBsaire's" oEcc. The Frenchman lost no time in going home and riddiug ' himself of his hat. Base Ball has been carried over to the Sandwich Ialanu3. A game was some time since played between two nine?, composed of natives, during which some cry queer antics were indulged in, so it is said. A player finding it impossible to leach his base, was determined not to be put out, and started up the town at full . speed, closely followed by the baseman. The latter, after a short chase, finding himself falling behind, mounted a hors near by, and thus overtook the player. After this little deviatiou from the rules, they returned to the grounds, and the game went on as before. HH1N AND SHEET IRON WARE JL - AND STOVE DEPOT!
