-A 1 i Home Conversation. Children hun ger perpetually for new ideas, and the most pleasant way of reception is the voice and the ear, not the eye and the printed p"e The one mode is natural and tha other artificial. Who would not rather listen than read ? We not untrequently pass by in the paper3 a full report of a lecture, and then go and pay our money to hear the self-same words uttered. An audience will listen closely from the be-Kinnin- to the end of an address which not one in twenty of those present would read with the same attention. 1 his is emphatically true of children. They will learn with pleasure from the lips o pa rents what tuev deem it drudgery to study in the book ; "and even if thy have the misfortune to be deprived of the educa tion -il advantages which they desire, they cannot f.iil to rot up intelligent if they enjoy in childhood and youth the privi lege of listcnlirr daily to the conver sation oftntelli-cnt people. Let parents, then, filk maeh and t ilk well at home. A father who i. habitually silent In his own house uny be, in winy respects, a vase man ; but he is not wise in his silence. "We sometimes sec parents who are the lue of every company which they enter, dull, silent, uninteresting at home among their children. If they have not mental activ ity and mental storic3 sufficient for both, let them first provide for their own house holds. Ireland exports beef and wheat, and lives on potatoes; and they fare as poorly who reserve their social charms for companions abroad and keep their dullness for home consumption. It is better to in struct children and make them happy at home than it is to charm strangers or amuse friends.- A silent house is a dull place for young people a place from which they will escape if they can. They will talk of being "shut up" there ; and the youth who doe3 not love home is in danger. Mako home, then, a cheerful and pleasant spot. Light it up with cheerful, instructive conversation. Father, mother, talk your best at home. A Bird's Sense of Danob. The power of judging of actual danger, and the free and easy boldnes3 which results from it, are by no means uncommon. Many birds seem to have a most correct notion of a gun's range, and, while scrupulously careful to keep beyond it, coiifiue their care to this caution, though the most ob vious resource would be to fly right away out of sight and hearing, which they do not choose to do. And they sometimes appear to make even an ostentatious use of their power, fairly putting their wit and cleverness in antagonism to that of man, for the benefit of their fellows. A naturalist in Brazil made an expedition to one of the islands of the Amazon to shoot spoonbills and ibises. His design was completely baffled by a wretched little sandpiper, that preceded him, continually uttering his tell-tale cry, which at once aroused all the birds within hearing. Throughout the day did this individual bird continue its self-imposed duty of sen tinel to the others, efFec.tually preventing the approach of the fowler to the game, and yet managing to keep out of the reach of bis guu. A Wise Landlord. One night, a judge, a military officer, and a minister all applied for lodging at an inn where there wa3 but one spare bed, and the landlord was called upon to decide which had the best claim of the three. "I have lain fifteen years in the garri son at 11." said the officer. "I have sate as a judge twenty year3 in R.," said the judge. "With your leave, gentlemen, I have etood in the ministry twenty-five years at N." said the minister. "That settles the dispute," said the landlord. "You, Mr. Captain, have lain fifteen years; yon, Mr. Judge, have sate twenty years; but the aged pastor has atooil nve-and-twenty years, so he certainly has the best right to the bed." Impurities of the blood, depression of vital energy, pale and otherwise fkkly complexions, .indicate its necessity iu almost every mnceivablc caC. Innoxious in ail maladies in which it has been tried, it has proved absolutely curative in each of the following complaints, viz: In Debility, I'c.ljus Afj'cciicns, E.nacintlon Ity.ijH.si.t, Coiistqaiion, Jjiariltaa, Dysentery, lncit'U-nl Coiitum olio it, Xcrofulovs 'fuU-rculosix, Suit liheu.n, Mismenstrualu.n, Whites, Chloro sis, Liter Complaii.ts, Chronic llcadach-vs, Jihru inaikvi, Intermittent I even, j. ttnjUe on iut Face. etc. In cases of Genkhal Dkbilitv, whether the result of acute diseases, or ot the continued diminution of nervous imd muscular energy from chronic complaints, on trial of this re storative has proved f ucces.sful to an extent which no description nor written attestation would render cicuiole. Invalids so long ueu ridden as to have become forgotten iu their own neighborhoods, have suddenly reappeared in the busy world as if just returned from pi o- (rnrtpd travel in a distant laud. Some very signal instances of this kind ore attested of female sufferers, emnciatcd victims ol sppa- of rent maraf-mus. ?anirnincous exnausiiori. tiit- ical changes, and that comidication of nervous and dys)eptie aversion to air and exercise lor which the physician has no name. In Nervous Auctions of all kinds, and for reasons familiar to medical men, the operation of this preparation of iron must necessarily be salutary, for, unlike the old oxides, it vigo rously tonic, without being exciting and over heating; and gently, regularly aperient, even in the most obstinate cases ot costi veness, without ever being a gastric purgative, or in flicting a di.-agreable sensation. It is tlii latterj roperty, among other?, v,-hich makes it vo remarkaiuy eneciuai ana perma nent a remedy for I'iles, upon which it also appears to exert a distinct and specific action, by dispersing the local tendency which lorms them. In Dypepsia, innumerable as are its causes, a single box of these Chalybeate iMlis has of ten sufficed for the most habitual cases, inclu ding the attendant costiveness. In unchecked Diarrhoea, even "when ndvnnced to Dysentery, confirmed, cmaeiatirg, and r.pj! rcntly malignant, the effects have been equally decisive and astonishinsr. In the local pains, loss of flesh and strength, debilitating cough and lemittcut hectic which generally indicate Incipient Consumption, this remedy has allayed the alarm of friends and physicians, in several very gratifying and in teresting instances. In Scrofulous Tnbcrculosi-i this medicated Iron has had far more thou the good eifect of the most cautiously balanced preparations of iodine, without any of their well known lia bilities. The attention of females cannot be too con fidently invited to this remedy and restorative, in the cases peculiarly affecting them. In Rhcteniaiinit, both chronic and inflamato ry in the latter, however, more decidedly it has been invariably well reported, both as alleviating pi; in and ltuuting the swellings and stilfres of the joints and muscles. In Ir.termillmt Fevers it must necessarily be a great remedy and energetic v.-torative. and its progress in the ne v settlements cf the West, will probably be one ofhigh renown and use fulness.
