ILL 1 . : -h ...J ;' J 'Hi 2rxs oELijAivrY- KEEr the Birthdays. A "Western exchange makes the following excellent suggestions, which moat meet the appro bation of all youthful readers. We trust they will also be received with favor by the 'old folks." It saya: "Keep the birthdays religiously ; they belong exclu eively to, and are treasured among, the sweetest memories of home. Do not let anything prevent some token, be it ever so slight, that it be remembered. Birthdays are great events to children. For one day they are heroes. The special pudding or cake is made for them; a new jacket or trowsere with pockets, or the first pair of boots are donned; and big brothers and sisters sink into insignificance beside "Lit tle Charlie," who is "six, to-day," and is "soon going to be a man." Mothers who have half-a-dozen little ones to care for, are apt to neglect birthdays; they come too often sometimes when they are too "nervous" but if they only knew how much such souvenirs are cherished by their pet Susy or Harry, years afterwards when ! away from the hearthstone, and they have J none td remind them that they have added one year more to the perhaps weary round of life, or to wish them, in old-fashioned phrase, "many happy returns to their birth day," they would never permit any cause to step between them and a mother's privilege. Boker, who cut off his daughter Mary Ann for marrying his coachman, John Dean, was yesterday admitted to probate; no opposition was made to any of the provisions. It is a question for phi losophers to solve, which has enjoyed most satisfaction ; the parental Boker, for ren dering penniless bis. child because hhe married the man of her choice, or the daughter who made the sacrifice, and who ere this, had ample time to experience the joys ajd sorrows of wedded life on a small capital. "Who knows but that her hus band may live to become as oppulent as Thurlow Weed, who often boasts that he commenced life with a fortune of a wife and two children, and a cash capital of htty cents. How "non-Intercourse" Works at the South. The New Orleans Picayune notices the fact that, notwithstanding all the clamor about non-intercoursa, the ex ports of shoes from Boston to the Southern States, show a considerable increase for the last three months, over the correspon ding period of 1859, and asks : Of what effect is all the cry of non-intercourse when, in the very heat of excitement against northern manufactures, the trade of the South with the most obnoxious of northern States grows, as shown bj these statistics ?
