IN ~~~ Cl earl 1 el d, Pa., Nardi §, 0.-..7As we intimated in our paper of week before last, we did not issue lest week ; and in corse . quence v of a slight in disposition, our appearance has been de layed a day or' two longer then it other. Wise would-have been. The .L9cVs,BOok, for i$ now on our table. This number, though infe rior to several of Godey's productions, Avill nevertheless compare ,with advantage with any of its co•tempora'ry publications. The engravings are mostly good ; .but we cannot say as much for its reading mat ter. The fault, however, may be our +own. t* -- - Our :Legislature fl ppeares to be more than usually industrious, A very large number of bills have already been , . „ • . passed—mostly of a private nature how ever. Plank reads are becoming quite lash itinable in the western part of New York and Canada, and also in several sections ofPennsylvanin. This species ofimprove ment, certainly possesses advantages sec ond only to the railroad. Their cost is, on an average, about two thousand dollars per mile, for a double track, .or twelve hundred for a single track. The advan tage in transportation, as compared l% it h the common road, or the best turnpike, is about three fold. Now, in view of the tact that good roads are a searee article ia our county; that several roads leading through our county to the Central rail road, must be erected; that there is an aburidaflee 01 apital ‘vith in tke , 7oun'y to erect a Plioil; road, and that Nature hua supplied us with facilities fur building such roads cheaper and better than almost. any other section—taking these facts into view we say, it is strange that our capitalists, who are deeply inter ested in the prosperity of the county, do not take action en the subject. They can do it, and by doing it, they would give em ployment to a large number of industrious eitizt us, and make for themselves a prof. atable and enduring investment. The Dissolution of the Union. What was fOrmerly a figure of speech, stump orators to arouse the slum bering people to acti%ity, just before elec tions,• has now become a subject of sober consideration and pritelleal calculation.— There is no mistake about. it. The disco lotion; or this happy Union is now the subject of serious reflection. It is no lon ger asked, "k it possible 1' but, "is it Probable?" .The southern Senators daily declare that there are evils %von , c thin a dissolution—that us much as they 1 0 %e the Union, and desire its preser%ation , they would prefer to sacrifice all, rather than to submit to the.cncrOachrnents of the North. Should the Wilmot Proviso, or any kind- red measure, r, ..Aricting the rights of the people of the sir vi:holtling States, be ado)). ted, they would look upon such an act as the worst of despotism, and would i% ith. draw from the Uuion. a l and 'cbT• able TVliat the present alarming state ant: fairs nizty end in, it is difficult to tell.—, We have yet seen no disposition on the part.of tho North to withhold their acts of interference in the Slavery question, and until something of this character shall be done we cannot look for peace; and may, before we are aware bcit, find the Union dissolved and the country in a state ofciv. war. utrd i tho il by can 11141 fine ;• Ab:e A very large and patriotic meeting of the Democrats of. SINGULAR CASE.—There has been con sidemble excitement at Frederick, Md., in regard to the sudden death du son of Mr. Geote A. Cole. A correspondent of the Hagerstown Mil says: "After being kept ter the period of four days, he was placed in Mr. Hart's vault, ip the Lutheran grave yard, with the lid of his coffin open, as there were very serious doubts whether or not he was in a trance. His disease, the doctors say, was the cry. sipelas, the' only indibition of which was a small pimple oh' his lip, causing much swelling; and of which, in the short space of three days, he'd:lied. • . Many persons haveduily' visited his re mains, and all express • their doubts.---- Though in this state for more than two weeks, his Cheeks are as rosy and fresh as when in good health; his lips, at first, somewhat blue, now have a very natural and life-like.color, and his limbs are as pH- Mit :as ever, not having the rigidity. of death at all; his eyes are not at all gunk-, en;'but natural as when in robust health. There is not, as yet ? the least appearance, of decay, and no offensive smell. His' parents visit him daily, to ascertain if any change has taken . place; either for better or worse.
