Bighorn, Joshua Hanna THE PRICAT F i le.—We have been favored by .1. 11. FOSTICR, Esq with a copy of a book just pub liahod by hin , in which is given "full account of the great firelit Pittsburgh, on the 10th of April 1845. with the individual losses, and cont.' ibutions for tend." It is neatly printed, and contains over 50 pages. It can be had at the Age Office and Cook's Third street, Melville's Agency, Allegheny, and Pollitt's in Dir. tningham. • ACCIDZST.-A horse ran ow with u small esrlinge, on Smithfield sti eet, yesterday afternoon. The driver, • small boy, escaped, we kern, without serious injury —the carriage was broken to p'.eces. ORto Poetic WoßKd.—The amount or stock owned by this State in its different railron3 comp'. niei. is $49.733; invested in Turnpike Lompuniea, $2,(69,558. and in calm's, $16,320,896—an agg.re gate of 819,297,199. The interest on this is $ l ,- 173,831 annually. TIME! TIME!! TIME!!! • attention having been directed, to the subject of "time," by the various articles that have recently Impaired in the columns 3f our *temporaries, we accepted of en invitation, yesterdify, to be present at an observation made of the sun's transit, for the pur pose of determining the "trite time." The instru ment used on this occsson was the Altitude and Azimuth, belonging to Z. W. R►xLNGTON, and imported nt a cost of one thousand dollars by Mesita Jim. B. McFsnote & Co. of this city. It has been used more than seven yenta, for the pu,pose of correcting the time of the city, and has therefore, done important service to the community. The üb,er yawn made yesterday, was for the purpose of verify ing the accuracy of the well-known time piece, kept by Messrs Jou. B. McFsnnvs & Co., and so long used as achy regulator. We were ast or.islied to learn that the result of the observation showed a varia tion of but two minutes and thirty-one seconds for more then three years time. We congratulate our citizens on the public spirit evinced by Mr Rzanco., von, in procuring so costly an instrument for public purposes, and so Necessary to men of business and scionce. The observation, above referred to wee taken with great accuracy by ROBERT W•Telolt, Esq, a gentle nose Well known for his scientific attainments. In addition to the cost of the instrument, Mr REsit twiron, has expended soniefour or five hundred dol lars in the ereciton or a suitable building in which to keep it and make übserrathms. This instrument is a, fine a piece of workmanship as we have ever seen.— It ought to he the property of the city. We do not know that Mr REWINOToIit would be willing to dis pose of it, but if • Ming, the city authorities ought certa inly to make the purchase. ELECTION—SIXTH IV ARD Whig Ticket.
