1)e Wait Slanting Post. PITTSBURGH, PA. TUESDAY MORNING, MAY 13, 1845 PITTSBURGH . BOARD OF TRADE COMMITTEE TOR MAY J. May, F. Lorenz, nriresterday was the first really hot day we have had this season, and in truth it was a scorcher. There were but few persons who had business on the street that did not appear to be in the "melting mood," and nothing seemed to be so grateful to the wearied pedes trian as to recline, for a few momenta, on a box on the shady side of the streets. The dust from the burnt district will render any place within two squares of it, extremely disagreeable during the ensuing summer , and nothing but the active attention of the Street Com missioner with his corps of sprinklers, can render the oeighboreood at all endurable. MARINE HOSPITAL—The Secretary of the Trea sury having applied to the War Department for an of. seer to superintend the building of the Marine Hospi tal at this place, w•e learn that Captain John San dler', of" the corps of Engineers, has been ordered to report to the Treasury Department fur that Duty. la? We are indebted to our friend, Dr. J. IL M'CLiwrocx, of Philadelphia, for a copy of the 12th annual Report of the Managers of the Pennsylvania In stitution for the instruction of the Blind. The number of pupils in the institution at present is as foll ows : 34 33 Females, Males, Total, The Institution appears to be in a very flourishing condition, and the managers speak in the most cheer ing tone of its increasing usefulness. The income of the Institution for 1895. is estima ted at $16.924,38. Office of the Allegheny Mutual Insurance, No 12 Exchange Buildings.
