The mo ey he offered as a reward to the finder. The wallet /as found the same day, by JAMIL 3. the son of the wi ow Lucinda Clark, of Allegheny city, and the money mmediately paid his mother. Celt is said that the Native Americans of Phila lelphia, are not "Church-Burners." If the military itid shot down all the "church-burners" in the lute lots in Philadelphia, we wonder how many votes the gative 'Americans conld poll in Philadelphia. HORACE GREELY, of the New York Tribune, is litposed to act a fair and honorable part in regard to .he recent riots in Philadelphia. Ho condemns in un rialified terms, the late unprovoked attempt to resume the business of church-burning. HORACE must "stop that," or he will be ostracised by the whig party. He belongs to the "wrong crowd" to indulge in the ex pression of liberal or just sentiments on this subject. laP We hare placed, says the Hanover Planet, the names of 22 new subscribers in our pncket bunk since the nomination of James K Polk—out of that number, 7 were Whigs at the time the nomination was made. Scvere Sentences.—John M. Breedlove, MarAall C. Halliday, and. James B. Watson, were found guilty at New °dram; of stea:ing the cancelled treasury noles. and sentenced on the sth inst. Breedlove guilty on two indictments, to ten years imprisonment at hard labor. Halliday to ten yearn at hard labor on one in dictment, and on another to five days and a fine of $25 000 ; and Wutnon to ten yew?. at hard labor. The Picayune states that Halliday and ‘Vation seemed in -different about the sentence: Breedlove on its announ cement was deeply afferted—afferted even to tears. TH6 f/PAS Tats.—.A living plant of this celebrated tree, has been lately presented to the horticultural So st.iety by the East India Company, and is now growing in the Chiswick Garden London. It is in perfect health, and notwithstanding the fables of Dutch travellers, per petuatedl by Darwin, may be approached with safety. It is, however, ito virulent a poison that nn pru nt person would handle it without proper pecan. tion. More Coming Over.—Captain Charles B. Hop tins, of Louisa, late President of a Clay club in that county, once whig candidate fir a seat in the Legisla ture, a man of standing and influence in his neighbor hood, has signed off from Mr Clay. Several of bis friends and neighbors who have held him in . deserved respect have declared the same determination. We congratulate Captain Hopkins on regaining his old, and 'lnre may add his natural position. [Ckarlotisrille Affersonian. Severe Pusialtment.—A man in Silerda was lately arraigned for bigamy. On the trial it appeared that he had successirldy niultried wises; ail of whom were in tour{. ~ e - j utlges decreed that the best pun ishment would be to make him live hereafter with di! whole nine. The an.kappi prisoner pleaded for cap ital punishment on hearing their decision, but without effect. The court was inexorable.
