POSTSCRIPT. THE RIOTS ENDED. Soon after Governor Porter's arrival in Philadelphia, a General Order was issued, making the most prompt provision fur the preservation of order. He closes with these words : "Riot and bloodshed must be terminated at once; the duty of (effecting this rests with the Executive, and those who art under his orders, and whatever the hazard, this duty shall be faithfully and fearlessly per formed." There were some straggling pnrties of the mob pa rading the streets, one with a cannon mounted on a dray. They all. however, were dispersed by peaceable means, and ull is quiet. Every turbulent feeling seems subdued, and the fearful riot seems at an end. But notwith standing, the retainers of the "immoral and profane" candidate have been beaten. The Democratic average majority iu the city is set down at 12 Six of the len representatives pre supposed to be elected, though theta is some doubt as to this. One thing is certein —we have a glorious victory. In the city of New Orleans in 1840, Hatrison had 933 majority! Now we have 126—gain 10592 Three cheers for . the noble Democrats of New Orleans!!! Upon the receipt of this information, General Well sent out a large foace to ar rest Delarette, &c., but they were met* a large par ty under Geueral Canales, the Governor of the Depart ment, who sent them back to Gen, Wall with a mes sage that 20 000 men could not -effect his purpose. THE undersigned Commissioners named in the Act of Assembly passed the 30th day of April, 1844, entitled "An Act to authorize the Governor to incorporate the - Delaware Canal Company," hereby give notice, that in pursuance of the provisions of the said act, they will attend at the Merchants' Exchange.. in the city of Philadelphia, on MONDAY. the sth day o'" August next, at 10 o'clock, A. M., and there com mence the sale of the stock of the Delaware Canal Company, on the following terms and conditions, to wit : bit. The Delaware Division of the Pennaylvan'a Canal shall be divided into twenty-five thousand shares, of one hundred dollars each. 2d. The shares shall be set up far sale singly, giv ing the purchaser the right of taking at his bid any number of shares from one to one thousand; Provided, That no share shall be sold for a leas sum then one hundred dollars; and provided further, that none of the said Commissioners, either in their own names, cr in the names of any other persons, shall become purchas ers of any of the stock at the sale authorized by the said Act of Assembly. 3d. Each purchaser. et the time of his purchase, shall deposit with the Commissioners the premiums or advance above the par value of the shares by him purchased, or if the bid or bids do not amount to five dollars per share, above the par value of the share or shares by him purchased, then and in such case the said purchasers shall pay five dollars on account and in part of each share thus purchased, the said sums to be paid in money, (or in the certificates of loan of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at the option of the purchaser.) 4th. Payment for the remainder of the purchase money will be required to be made within thirty days frora the purchase, under the forfeiture fur delinquency of the amount paid to the Commissioners at the time of sale. sth. A transfer to the Commonwealth of Pennsylva nia of certificates of the loans of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to an equal amount. will be received by the Stare Treasurer in payment for the shares of stock purchased, and any money deposited with the Commissioners at the sale, will also be exchanged by the State Treasurer for a transfer of the said loans to the Commonwealth, to an equal amount. 6th. Should the whole of the shares not be sold on the first day, the sales will be adjourned to the next and succeeding days, if necessary, for nineteen days in succession, and if, on the twentieth day, it shall ap pear that less than twenty-five thousand shares shall have been sold. in dint cage the sales shall be declared void, and the deposir.4 made with the commissioners shall be returned to the purchasers respectively. 7th.
