.:04 OVllll5{ CYM. fO, .PITTEIBUILOIIs WEDNESDAY MORNING, APRIL 27, 1881 tr:7 7 4 pr 3 1313 4,1 6 3-ctil 3DA Gen. PRANK P. Btern of St. Louis, member of Congress and brother'of the PostmasterSieneral, has been for some weeks after Secretary Cassie with ex ceedingly sharp instrument. He com menced his investigation of the Secrets; ry's operations some weeks since, but in order to break the force of his statements a_ person named McCLuso, front) Mis souri, was selected to not only deny Butra'acharges, bat to charge back cor ruption upon &Ant himself. This dodge would - not do, however; it neither alarm ed BLAIR nor. drove him from the pur suit of his victim. • Apiong the clarges agaimst Secretary Clpmr,„ Btent stated that he and his new son-in-law Senator SPReacrz of Rhode Island, had managed to make about ten nrillforis of dollars in munitions of war speculations with the rebels. Gen. BLAIR also charged 'upon the head of the Treasury personal corruption. No one in the House except THAD. SraPtrxxs ,was prepared to contradict these charges against a member of the cabinet, and he atose merely to express his want of be lief in them, at the same time remarking `that he did not appear as the 'representa gyp. of Mr. Caen on the floor of the - Souse. We have no idea that the Republican majority will allow anything like an in vestigation of these serious charges against the Secretary of the Treasury to take place. They rely, remarks the World, - upon the blind fanaticism of their followers, who, if Mr. CHASE only favors a war for ending slavery, will not permit him to be guilty, or dis believe that he is guilty, of the most shameful per sonal and official corruption. They feel no 'constraint, external, from public opittioncand none internal from a desire to Secure official purity and punish offi cial -corruption. Two steamers sailed from New York on Saturday for Liverpool, taking out the large sum of $1,772,000 in coin.
