The splendid telescope designed for the Allegheny observatory has arrived, and the promoters of this source ( f rational enjoyment, and read scientific instruction, will soon be gratified through its medium with a more distinct view of the wonders of our glorious firmament. How delightfully profitable must be the hours spent in thus contemplating these heavenly bodies, moving with unerring precision in the respective orbi s traced out for them by the great author of creation in the infinite realms of space. Doubtless, the full en. Joyment of this scientific treat will some , times be interrupted by impaired vision, but for this (except in cases of total blind ness) tharr , is now a sovereign cure to be forted in Trevor's Australian eye water, being a certain, safe and 'peedy remedy remedy for the removal of incipient oatas rant, opthalmia, wilts Benne, spots on the eye balls and the various other diseases the visual organs are subject to a fact made apparent to all applicants. FORTRESS MONROE, December 5—A flag of truce arrived from Norfolk to-day bringing several Charleston paisougers, but no news of any kind can be gleans ,- .1 from them, except. what is contained in the Norfolk Day Book of to-day. It con. tains the Message of Governor Letcher to the rebel legislature of Virginia. One cf the main points in it is the regret that Fortress Monroe is not in possision of the Southern Confederacy. The rebel Congress, at its session on the 31 instant, passed a resolution of thanks to General Sterling Price for his active services in M.i-souri during the cam paign. Governor Lo teher urges a forward movement, and rays that the banks of the Potomac is not the place to fight, but the struggle should take place on the banks of the Potomac. Gan. Wool also dispatched a flag of truce to Norfolk with a number of letters and considerable clothing for the Union prison. era at Richmond. The steamer Illinois will leave this even. ing for Port Royal with troops for General Sherman. A Stvannah dispatch, dated the 4th last., says: Sixteen of the enemy's ships ere now Inside of the bar, and an attack on. Port Pulaski is hourly expected. The Richmond Divatele of the sth says that a report is current that Gen. Floyd's command has been ordered to another im portant post of duty. A telegram from Nashville, dated the 3i, says that General Floyd has fallen back to within thirty miles of the Virginia and East Tennessee Railroad. New Orleans IF 'mance'. We are not aware of any pleat:motive improve+ mont in commerce to warrant this figure, which is much higher than in the bank , ruptcy of 1837 and 1840. It is bruited about that some parties are placing all their funds in Europe, for fear, perhaps, the highway 'relebest of the world may penetrate to our good city. Missouri Military Movements. LEAYSNWvRTEI, December 6 —Briga dier General Denver has arrived, and has been assigned to the command of all the Kansas regiments. A portion of Lane's brigade remains at Fort 5...-ott. The 4th regiment is ordered to Wyandotte. The First cavalry, known as Jennison's regi ment, is stationed at Johnny Lesko's on the Delaware Reservation, nearly oppo% site Parksville, Missouri. The Second regiment is nearly recruited, and will occupy the village of Kidapoo, ten miles above this city. Toe river remains open, but trouble with marauding parties is anticipated when it freezes over. Trains are again running on the Platte country road, and our mail communications East are re-es tab•ished. Rebels Stealing at Independ- ence. KANBAS CITY, December s.—By order of General Hunter, Col. Jenicison'a rogi• merit moved to a point midway between Kansas City and Leavenworth yesterday. All communication between here and In dependence is cut off. The Rebel Hays with three hundred men visited Indepen., dance, on Monday, and seized all the horses belonging to the Pacific Stage Com , pany, and made a general confiscation of all property of Union citizens. Cleaning out Price's Men SEDALIA, December s.—Yesterday a party of exasperated citizens of all parties attacked a gang of returned rebels from Price's army, under Captain Young and Wheatley, near Dunksburg, about twenty miles west of here, killing seven and wounding ten of them. Among the killed was Captain Young. None of the citizens were killed or severely wounded.
