''''''''' NOV. 0 6. _ . _ 0 I 'l' - Y" -Ivl- -E ',XCITENILNT TILIC TkLATRE.—SOIXIO excitement was occasioned at the Theatre last evening, consequent upon the engage ment of Miss Maggie Mitchell, who, it was rumored, had tramieed the American flag under foot at Montgonni". , ,ty, Alabama. It was feared during the day that there might be a disturbance in tab evening and a large police force was press - it to quell any riot ous peoceedings. After the tint piece Miss Mitchell was loudly called for and came before the curtain with Manager Hender son, when Capt 0. L. Braun, of this city, now in the artillery Service, rose and de. mended an explanation of the "Mont che ery aff]ir." Cries of "throw him out; ' "take off his uniform," &rt. were heard and in the confusion the voice of the Man ager was scarcely distinguishable, while the poor girl was so agitated that she be came white as marble and was LIMILIO to speak. Mr. Henderson briefly stated that o she denied the charge in tutu and pronunc ed it false; that her mother, who traveled with her, also denied it ; that Mr. and Mrs. McManus, of the company, who played with Mies M. in New U , leans, saw nothing of the kind ; and that Mr. tiourcy, who was bt the Montgomery Theatre during the entire engagement el the lady, said nu such occurrence had transpired there. The explanation was satisfactory to the few in the audience who had believed the report and also to Cap!. Braun. Miss Mitchell retired amid loud applause and the remain der of the performance passed off without interruption. Margie appears again this evening as Margot, the poultry dealer and riatty O'Shiel. We trust that henceforth she may not be interrupted in the panto' of her profession here. oVI INDLING.—AIder wan Scott, of Alles gbeny, nes held to bail Henry Fullerof the Third Ward, charged by Henry Anderson with obtaining money by false rretences. Anderson alleges that Fuller sold him a cow for $26 50, representing that she was a fresh witch cow, with a calf two weeks old, and that eight pounds of butter per week could be made from her milk. Fuller also represented that he resided on Girty's Hun, near the city line, and if the cow was not as represented ho would refund the money. Andersot, teok possession of the animal, but soon discovered that the cow was nearly dry, and the calf had horns about three inches lon . It was found. furthermore, that Fuller resided in the Third Ward, Allegheny; that he did not own the cow, nut sold it for the owner, a resident of Butler county, for a consideras Lion. SOLDIER SH vitt) Sybil, of Altoo na, in Capt. Bother's company, District volunteers, was shot at Washington, on Friday night last. le was in his camp asleep, when a private, in liquor, a real Baltimore Plug.ugly, was brought into the camp in irons. lie, however, got his hands through the handcuffs, and corn. mer ced pulling bricks out of the fire place and throwing them violently at the guard. Presently he seised a musket and aimed it at Litit Colonel Towers, who escaped the charge, which was lodged in the thigh of Sybil, then lying asleep. The limb was hurribly mangled and cannot be saved, and the recovery of the man is very doubt ful. °REIGN PERlODleALs,—ffenry Miner, Lyon's building, Filth street, sends us the current number of the Edinburgh Review, for October. The leading article is a re view of volume five of Macauley's History of England, edited by his sister, Lady Trevelyan; the other articles are of equal interest, including one on English Juris prudence, one on Theirs' Revolution of the Hundred D.tya, and a third on -the works of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. From the same house we have Blackwood's Eiin burgh Magazine for November, which is a more readable number than any recently issued, and is well worth perusal. Mr. Minor sells all the foreign quarterlies re published by Leonard Scott & Co. IL DICATIL—A man named Set, ler, residinz near Mansfield, Ohio, left home some three weeks ago, carrying with him a large jug of whisky. His hat and jug were found next morning on the rail road track, and nothing further 'was known of him until Thursday last, when a drover at the Atanslidld junction, crawl, ing under the platform after a runaway hog, encountered the decaying body of the poor inebriate.
