' " Connecticut Stray-1 The following is related ns a tact, having ac tually happened some years- since in the State of Connecticut; r A man in father indifferent circumstances, surrounded by a large family, entirely out of meat, had recourse to. the stumpfold of his nqighbor, p wealthy farmer, for .relief.—. The neighbor having a large flock of sheep did not perceive that he had lost any, until one of the finest of the flock, very larg&and fat, wafi missing, and counting his sheef !he found b'e had lost several- Unable to a court for this extraordinary loss, ha rasolyfd a ’few nights after to watch. About mi Inight he observed a great disturbance among (lie sheep, caused by. the appearance of a mflh in dis guigeU'Uoriosity, as well-aa to'find; him out, induced him to Ho still; In the flook thero was a ram with whom it seems the man 'Vas in.the habit of as if bo tual owner of the sheep—“ WelUMrißam,” says the noctural sheep stealer, “ I ,Km come to buy another; sheep; have you anymore tpsell?” Upon which ho replied, as in person of the ram, “ Tee, I have sheep to sell.” ; JBy this .time the owner had discovered him to be one of his neighbors. “ What will you. take for that ?” says the purchaser. “ Four dollars,” .yepliod Mr. Ram. 4 “ That is a very high price,” Stars the man, “ but as you are so good as to waiter the pay, I think I will take him.” “Well Mr.'Karo,” continued-the honest sheep’-boyar, “let roe see how )aany sheep I haVaboughtof you.” j “lfT"am“nfit "mistaken,"-'"pajls the ram, “ this is the fifth/' end-then,went jin to oast up the whole, and giving Mr. Ram a .polite invita tion to call on him for his pay,'/md bidding him a good night, he led, the home, while the owner lay laughing at t je novelty of the'scene, highly gratified and at ply paid for the whole. A few nights afterwards when he supposed his neighbor was, mut ton, he canght the old ram and tie i a little bag under his neck, and placed a pi ice of paper between his jiarns, on which he V tote in large letters. ", “I have come for my money,” . ■ Under this lino be footed, up the whole amount of tho fits sheep, exactly as his neighbor had done;.as before related; he then hjok the ramr to his neighbor’s house, where be tied him near the door, and then went lidmc^ When the neighbor arose in the morning, he was not a little surprised to find a sheep tied to his own door; but it i<P beyond words] tu express astonishment when.Ue found it was 5 tho old, ram with whom hej hall been dealing so much in mutton, with his brand fin his fore-, head, and the amount of five sheep actually, made out, as he bad done a days previous," in the person of the ram. Suffice it to say, he obtained the money, and after |jing it nicely in the bag, and tearing the pape£ from bis horns, set the ram at liberty, who immediately ran home, jingling tho money, as if, proud of hav ing accomplished the object of his errand4-to the no fmill gratification of the owner. • ( An Irishman, who had lain'sick a long time was root one day by the parish priest, when the following conversation tobk-place. . “ Well, Patrick, I am glad you have recover; edbut were you not afraid to meet your God ?’’ “ Ocb, no. your riverence, it Jvas the other chap I was afraid of,” replied Pat. .
