In urging the Democratic members ot tbe Legislature in Kentucky to elect Governor Beckham to the United States Senate Mr. Bryan declares that in 1904 he took bis inedicne in Parker, whom he didn't want, and that be did what he could for him. The parallel certainly augurs ill for Mr. Heck ham. Mr. Bryan's strenuous exertions for Alton B. Joseph Sibley has decided to quit politic will set at rest a large amount ot talk that has been going on in this con gressional district for some time. While Mr. Sibley no doubt made a good record while in the national bouse yet it is but a fair deal to give tbe present incumbent, Hon. N. P. Wheeler, a chance to show what he can and will do while serving the people in the capacity of congressman. His record so far has been fairly good, especially so when it comes to looking out for tbe interests of the soldiers of this district. Many have him to thank for devoting his time to their cause and thus obtaiuing for them what they are right fully entitled to. Mr. Wheeler Las not come to tbe front as a man who desires to set the world on fire, hut bis conservative business meth ods have won for him the respect and good will of his constituents as well as of his co workers in the national body. Mr. Sibley is to go abroad to visit the scenes in the Holy Land. He will take a rest which be has for some years felt him self entitled to. Incidently the congress ional district will also take a rest and leave well enough alone. Mr. Sibley has a large lollowing in this section and is a pleasing man to meet, but tbe majority of the people have come to believe that he has served this district long enough aud at the same time well enough to en title bim to the long rest be is about to take.
