HEPUKLICAX COMMITTEE MEETING) The Forest County Committee Adopts New Jtules and Elects a Chairman. Pursuant to call of the Chairman, Dr. J. C. Dunn, the newly elected Republican County Committee of Forest couuty met at the Court House in Tionesta, Friday July 26, 1!K)7, at 2 o'clock p. m., and was called to order and the object of the meet ing set forth In a few remarks by the Chairman. It developed that the borough and seven of the eight townships of the county were represented. The meeting was organized by the election of A. C. Brown, Esq., as president, and Geo. L, King as secretary. A draft of the new rules was submitted by Dr. Dunn, and after a thorough discussion of the same and the adoption of some Important addi tions and amendments the entire set ol rules was adopted section by section, the Totes in each case being unanimously In the afflrmative. Upon the completion of this work the committee proceeded to the election of a chairman for the ensuing year, and the choice fell to County Treas urer Wm. H. Harrison, his being the on. ly name presented. The new rules adopted seem to cover the ground completely, and it Is believed will be entirely satisfactory to the Repub licans of the county. Lack of space pre' Tents their publication In this issue of the Republican but next week we shall publish tbem in full. Upon the completion of the other bus. Iness the following resolutions were pre sented and adopted unamlinously by the Committee; Resolved, 1st. That we, the represen tatives of the Republican party of Forest County, In convention met, hereby re' affirm our adherence to the principles of the Republican party as enunciated in its various platforms, both State and Na tional. 2. We hereby endorse the wise and progressive administration of President Roosevelt, and highly esteem his success ful efforts to control and restrain Illegal combinations in restraint of trade, aud the abolition of the iniquitous rebate sys tem which our people have suffered and endured so long, aud we commend his fearless stand in defense of the people's rights against corporate greed. 3. We heartily commend the wise and consistent administration of Governor Edwin S. Stoat t, and point with pride to his fidelity In earring ont every pledge made to the voters and citizens of the State dnrlng bis campaign, and his per sistent determination to ferret out and bring to justice any and all that are in any way responsible for, or connected with, the humiliating capitol scandal. 4. We denounce in unmeasured terms the graft aud dishonest practices in con nection with the building of the State Capitol, and desire hereby to emphasize the fact that the citizens of Pennsylvania will be satisfied with nothing short of a thorough sifting of all the transactions connected therewith, and the punishment of any and all guilty parties, both by civil and criminal prosecution, to the end that the dignity of the great State of Penn sylvania may be preserved, and looters and grafters be brought tojUBtice. 6. We hereby heartily endorse the ticket placed in nomination by the Re publicans of Forest County, and pledge to it our hearty and earnest support at the November election. Mars is a brilliant object these nights, yet, at its nearest, is still so far away that astronomers with impunity may find re semblance to a camel, weasel or very like a whale. Stkakinci of Bryan's continued can didacy a South Carolina paper says; "There seems to be uo deliverance from this body of death." A timely notifica tion of the coroner might help. It is said that a shortage of coal would embarraa our navy on the Paoific. This problem must be still more serious lor Japan. Those who fear a speedy bom bardment of our western coast may rest easy. Candidatks for governor in New York are now forbidden by law to spend moro than flO.OUO in a oonvass. Mr. Hearst admits an expenditure of fiVS.OOu in bis race, and the consequential cash damages were much greater. The new law hits llearstism in a vital spot. THKjury In the noted Haywood case at Boise City, Idaho, rendered a verdict of not guilty after being out about l!l hours. The verdict was not a surprise to those who had followed the evidence, the gen eral opinion being that the state had failed to sufficiently corroborate Or chard's story to warrant the conviction of the prisoner. Some more Japanese seal poachers have been overhauled by the United States authorities. Instead of raising an inter national hullabaloo, Japan should be satisfied with an entry of the incident on the station-house slate. ONKoftho laws of Japan forbids the ownership of a foot of real estate by for eigners, and there are in that country many similar legal discriminations against outlandera. Japan has a right to protect itself In such matters, and other countries will claim a similar latitude according to their best judgment.
