Not a single regular has been shown to have had the least thing to do, or been In any way connected with, corrupt solicitation. The investigation was ordered by the Democrats and anli-Quayites in the hope of getting some of tho Senator's friends in a hole. Rut if some of their own members don't get into the pen it will be a miracle. , s iiLi-' Wmbmi Www i tatW W Thk Republicans of Blair and Warren counties held tbeir primaries on Satur day last, the principal interest hi the former county centering on tho election of delegates to the State convention, the issue being squarely against the candi dates iriendly to Senator Quay. Tho an tis were backed up by insurgents Flinn, Koontz and ether blattant kickers, but the Quay delegates won hands down. Blair was one of the strongest anti-Quay comities in the State last fall, but tne people there seem to have wakened tip to the fact that the kickers have, no other motive than the breaking up of the party and are refusing to follow them to that extent. The Warren dolegatos aro also staunch friends of Senator Quay. Among the bills reeentlr introduced at Harrisburg is one by E. W. Parshall of Warren county, which legalizes the kill ing of grouse, 'quail, woodcock ami other game birds from Octobor 15th to Decem ber loth, and rabits from October 1st to Febiuary 1st. The bill, it is thought will be antogonized bv sportsmen generally as la bird- Tilusvillc louric: "As to birds," tho bill makes no change in the season, and we cannot see why it will be antagonized on that score, al though the ideal season would be from Oct. 1 to Dec. 15, lor game birds of all kinds. The rabbit season should be ex tended a couple of months farther into the winter. But why worry? No chang es in the game season are at all likely this session. To the Republicans of Forest Connly. Owing to my present physical disibili ty, i win tie unable te make such a per senal canvass of the county as I should like to and as I would under other cir enmstances, I wish to kindly ask my Re publican friends in the different sectious of the county to loek alter my inter ests. If elected Commissioner of Forest County I promise the people my most faithful attention to the duties imposed by the office. ' J. II. Morrison, Marienville, March 20, 1899. Sized Up the Situation. So much has been said about Dr. Tow- ler's reply to the statement in several papers as to his being asked to preside in Speaker Farr's absence for a purpose that we give the little speech as it oc curred : The Doctor rose on a "question of priv ilege" end sad: "Mr. Speaker, H is well known that the wrath of members of this honorable body has been growing daily in consequonco of the misreprescn tations sent out by the press. These misstatements have at last been directed to the position of the member from For est. I read from the Pittsburg Dispatch of yesterday as follows: Dr. Samuel S. Towler, of Forest, called the House iu Speaker Farr's absence. The Doctor has become tired of voting for Quay, and may break away any time, The Quay managers know this and are trying to keep him in line by putting him up to preside when rarr is absent, In the case of this reporter I beg the house to temper justice with mercy. On the strength of this paragraph alone, and with no additional evidence, I cm w ling and in this I will be joined by ev ery Doctor in the house to cortify to tho reporter's insanity. I am willing, also, in view of his affliction, to extend tho courtesy usually given to tho press and do it without tho usual fee. The Tact is the strain of the Senatorial struggle has been too much for tho poor fellow; he has got wheels in his head and they are commencing to click. I beg that the House will look over his offense and let this mistake go glimmering down into the past, to be forgotten with all the other balderdash that has been sent out from the House by reporters to deceive an innocent but much suspectingpublic." the new County Home of Forest County at Tionesta, Pa,, according to the plans and specifications of Charles M. Inquirer, Representative Towler gives an excel lent statement of the Senatorial situa tion at Harrisburg, which would be well worth reproducing in its entirity bad we the space to devote to it. The Inquirer, among other complimentary things, says of our member: "There is no more brilliant and able Representative on the fleor of the House of Representatives than Dr. S. S. Tewler, of Forest county. The Doctor is not only a man of exceptional attainments in his profession, but has been successful in a number of busiuess enterprises. He is one of the most influential Republicans in the Commonwealth, as during liis membership In the Legislature he has made friendships with leading men of the party in nearly every county. He is a happy and eloquent orator, and always commands attention when he addresses the House." In his statement the Doctor makes a happy hit in the following paragraph, -which puts the situation in a much dif ferent and more truthful light than we are accustomed to see in the Wanatnaker bargain counter papers. Taking tip the second ballot he puts it in this way : Suppose we put the result in its true light, this way, instead of putting a scare headline of "Quay 13 short;" let us give it its true color, thus: SECOND BALLOT. Whole number of votes cast, 248. . Necessary for a choice, 1Z. Julin Dalzell, 210 shy. Colonel Huff. 220 short. So on with the rest of the fourteen, and wiau up with: Senator Quay only lacks 13 votes. That puts the situation as it really was and is.
