Clearfield Journal. A man named John E. Bington was taken to Warren Friday from Sheffield and lodged in jail. It is claimed that he atlompted to cut his wifo's throat. After being placed in confinement he became violently insane and made two unsuc cessful attempts to hang himself. Governor Hastings has signed tho death warrant of II. II. Holmes, the trafficker in" human lives, and the no torious criminal will die on the gallows on May 7, unless somo means can be de vised by his attorneys to obtain a furtuor delay in the execution of the death sen tence. A scientist has discovered a variety of lizard which loses iis tail whenever it is surprised or startled. We have no liz ards of this variety, but along about huckleberry time we could show the scientist a snako whose tail gets badly rattled when its owner is molested. Blizzard. The Tionesta Gas Co. drilled in anew well on their lease on Hemlock Monday. It is a good strong gaser and shows up well with the othor wells belonging to the company. This ought to be a good well as the contractor has met with one accidont after another and has boon about six months getting the well comploted. Council passed a resolution at its reg ular meeting Monday evening instruct ing the high constable to arrest all tramps found within tho borough limits, and take them before the buruess to be tried as vagrants. Provision was also made for the erection of a pen with a nice stone pile, on which tho hobos will be set to work. This is thn remedy that will cure. A fow weeks ago we made mention of a mortgago recorded in Jefferson county covering fifty or more pages, and for an amount of 8175,000,000. Recordor Arner recorded a Sheriff's deed to Frank O. Smith, cashier, last week, which may not have contained so many words, but for length it perhups knocks out the Jef ferson county instrument. It measured a littlo over six feet. Chairman C. A.
