More ibont Tin Plate. Tbe following letter, which clearly explains itself, gives information about the tin plate industry heretofore un known except to very few people. It is worth a careful perusal : N. G. Taylor Co.,) M'fViw of Tin Platk, rmi.ADELrntA, May 2, '92. ) Editor Republican, Tionesta, Pa. Dear Sir: We notice in your issue of the 20th an article hendeii "How Tin is Made," aurl would say whi'e your description is very short it gives an idea of the manufacture by tbe old fashioned process, which of course, is the best and most reliablo, and by which process we feel that the finest plate can only he made; but when we tell you that 75 per cent, of the output of tin plate is by tbe acid flux process, you will realize that there has been a great change in the making of this article and that the output by the acid flux process does not compare with the oil process. Tbe acid flux is used in many patent machines, some of which do not occu py a space of more than 4 feet square and are worked by two boys, one standiog in front and the other at the side of a pot which contaius metal. On one side there is a cast iron parti tion in which the acid flux floats on top of the metal. Boy number 1 takes tbe sheets from the water, passes them through the acid flux down into the metul where they are caught in a rack. 15 oy number I, turning a handle, raises the rack which brings the edge of the sheet between the rolls, These carry it out and it is finished, lhe rolls revolve in palm oil which is floating on top of tbe metal on one side of tbe pot, but the quantity is so small that it really is of no benefit to the plate. As these boys pass about 13 sheets per minute yon will realize how quickly the plates are made by this process As far as the value is concerned, vou can lurtce when we tell you that the cheap coke plates, such as used in 1 WILL NOT BE OUTDONE. DRUGGISTS & GROCERS, TIONESTA, you will bnd tbe American ingenuity far surpass previous results, and that tin plate can be made in this country to successfully compete with the for eieo article even tnouctj the extra duty be removed. It is tbe universal ignorance of what tin plate really is that causes tbe many ridiculous publications on the subject, but as the industry is growing, turning out plates as fine as made abroad, it will not take a great while for the American people to realize it. Very truly yours, N. & G. Taylor Co Illinois Republicans came to the front manfully in State Convention yesterday, and instructed their dele gate to tbe National Convention to vote for President Harrison's renomi nation, lbat was tbe proper course to pursue. President Harrison's ad ministration has been a clean Ameri can one, and there is a demand trom -all over the country that be be kept in office. It would have been greatly to the credit of every Republican State in tbe Union if tbey had in structed their delegates to vote for him and secure bis nomination on tbe first ballot. Harruburtj Telegraph, Mr. J. P. Iilaize, an extensive real e: tate dealer in Des Moines, Iowa, narrowly escaped one of the severest attacks of pneumonia while in the northern part of that State during a recent blizzard, says the Saturday Review, Mr. Blaize bad oo- casion to drive several miles during the storm and was so thoroughly chilled that he was unable to get warm, and inside of I an hour after his return be waa threatened with a severe case of pneumonia or luug fever. Mr. Rlaize sent to the nearest drug store and got a bottle of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, of which be had often heard, and tisik a number of large doses. lie says the effect wag wonderful and that in a short time be was breathing quite easily. He kept on taking tho medicine and the next day was able to come to Des Moines. Mr. Blaize regards his cure as simply wonderful. 50 cent bottles for sale by Proper & Doutt, druggists. apr. "We have never had such a fine array of harvest machines to show farmers as this season. Every one shows invent ive skill, strength and symmetry derived from the touch of WALTER A.WOOD. The Wood machines, as made for 1 892, are winning crowds of new friends. Examine the new chain-drive, and balance reel, on the Wood harvester. Examine the new spring lift and the new axle extension on the Wood mowers. Ex amine the Wood hand-dump rakes, virtually self-dumping. CHARLES A. HILL, Agent, TIOlsTIilST-A., PBUIT. Tbe Henry George book, which tbe Democrats in Congress tried to make a campaign document and have print ed free on the Government presses at Washington, is something more than a free trade treatise. It argues indeed for absolute free trade, but Mr. George wants that result as a means, not an end. He would repeal all tariffs on ' imported goods in order to compel the Government to raise all the money for its support by taxes on land. His theory is to exempt all improvements, even the most costly city palaces and business blocks, and puts the whole tax on land and make it equal to the full rental value of the real estate. This would be a fat thing for rich men with fortunes invested in stocks and bonds, and also for those who own great business blocks which command high rents. In such properties the land represents only a small part of the investment. Iu the country, how ever, where iarrus spread over many acres and the improvements are com paratively inexpensive and constitute a smaller proportion of tbe total val uation, the land tax would be disss trously severe. Yet on a deliberate vote in Congress tbe Democratic party has declared its urgent desire to go to extreme lengths to propagate and cul tivate the doctrines of absolute free trade and tbe destruction of private property in land.
