THE FOREST REPUBLICAN. J. C. WCNR, CDITOK ft "KOSSItTOS. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER , ISS9. THE ELECTIONS BOYER'S MAJORITY 85,000. Forest County Spoils Its Splendid Record. Pennsylvania again comes to the froat with ao old time Republican majority running np to 65,000 or thereabout, all of which is rer grati fying. The result in Forest county is rery far from what it should hare been on the county ticket, although the State ticket gels abont its usual majority. For the first time since its re organisation Forest county elects a Doraocratio Treasurer, a fact which is very unpleasant to record in a county which twice in succession has taken the banner in a great Stale like ours. Were we cognizant of the causes which led to the defeat of Mr. Doutt, the Republican candidate, it would scarcely be proper to parade them be fore the public, and as the cutting seems to have been pretty general all over the couuty, it cannot be assigned to any particular locality, and it would be difficult to find a reason for it. Tarty pride should have held the Republicans to the whole ticket, and the party has done itself an injury which cannot help but tell on future elections. It is a decidedly unpleas ant duty to write about a defeat, and one to which we are by no means ao customed, hence we do not care to The Deadly Car Stove. The Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Reading, and Baltimore and Ohio railroad, of our own state, are discard ing the stoves as fust as steam appa ratus can be introduced into their cars. The New York Central used steam last winter under the compulsion of the law of that state and every other road in the state is expected to be rid of the stoves by Nov. 1st. The Boston and Albany company, ef Massachu setts, beats by steam all the cars over which it has control. The old Colony road, the western division of the Bos ton and Maine road, the Fitcliborg and the New England roads will be heated by steam during the coming winter. The New York, New Haven and Ilartfurd is the only New Eng land road of any importance that has refused to discard the stove, and suit has been brought agaiDSl the company by the attorney general of New York to compel it to obey the state law on this subject. The traveling publio is to be con gratulated on the lapid progress of much-needed reform in the heatiug of railway cars. Tbe dangers of railway travel will certainly be very much lessened by tbe exit of the stove. HeadvilU Tribune. TJIANKSGITmi DAT. The President Fixes Thursday, Novem ber 28, as the Day to be Observed. Follow ing Is the President's proc lamation, setting apart Thursday, November 28, as a day of National Thanksgiving : A highly favored people, mindful of their dependence on the bounty of Divine Providence, should seek fit ting occasion to testify their gratitude and ascribe praise to Him who Is the author of their many blessings.
