Although a trifle in advance we congratulate our young friend Frank, upon this important step in the right directiou, and hope that his years of joy, peace and prosperity with his charming bride may be many and full of usefulness. Mr. M. Carpenter, Tionesta's old photographic artist, departed on Wednesday of last week for Lincoln, Kansas, where he will make his fu ture home with bis children, some of whom reside there. . He bad served the people of this vicinity in his liue for about 16 years, and became a sort of standby until his failing health and declining years compelled him to abandon his work. We wish him many years of peace and joy iu his new home. j Last Sabbath, while on his way from Corry to Columbus, in company with a boy of his own age, Willie Krecb accidentally shot himself in the abdomen with a twenty two cali bro revolver, the ball entering just be low the navel. The boys walked a distance of two and a half miles after the accident. At last accounts the boy, who is aged about 14 years, weg in a very critical condition. He is a brother of Mrs. Ed. They were being hauled by the Rev's team, the Rev. driving. In crossing a narrow bridge laid across Salmou Creek one of the "colts" jumped off the bridge into the water ten feet below. The other "colt" looked after the first belligerent and then followed suit, jumping off the bridge into the water, also. The bug gy came in contact with R stump standing close beside the road and was not overturned. After a little trouble the "colts" were diseotacgled and got out of the water. Fortunate ly the only serious results were a soaked minister, a scared judge, and a wrecked buggy wheel. H. Irwin, of the Franklin Newi, on the tramp of the season : The fashion of the tramp of the present season does not materially differ from that of last winter. They continue to wear their hair and beard in negligee style. The use of soap ia not considered in good form, and a tramp who is not hungry aud thirsty is held in disfavor. The number of tramps with us is not so great aa in some of oor sister cities. There are signs of an increase in Oil City, aud applications are beiog fieuly made tor lodgings. In the towns sit uated within the uatural gas belt we may look for an iccrease of tramps who are willing to saw wood for a meal. There ia little change to re port in tramp manners. Three of them, who had insulted ladies at Ti tusville, pasted through this city yes terday, iu charge of an officer, on their way to the Mead ville jail. M. L. The Clarion democrat gives tho follow ing synopsis of acts of assembly passed by tho lust legislature, which will be found of general interest to peoplo in onr county t CANADA TniSTLK. The former act amended so that the fine 6f 15 instead of going one half to the County Treasurer and the oihcr half to the informer, now ia paid entirely to tho school district in which the land is situated. The section allowing persons aggrieved to enter upon the lands of another after five days notice and cut down the thistles and sue for pay, Is amended so that par ties aggrieved by the neglect of land own ers to cut and de.Htroy tho thistles on their own lauds, may notify tho constable or supervisor of the district who must give the land owner five days notice to cut and dostroy the thistles, upon the failure of the land owner to do this the ofllcer must entor upon the premises with such othei persons as he may employ and cut down and destroy the thistles, and recover from the land ownors compensation at the rate of $2.50 per day. Tho officer also gets a fee of HO cents and six cents mileage, cir cular, lor sorving the notice. It is also made the duty of the supervisors to do stroy tho Canada thistles growing along the public roads. And any suporvisor or constable who refusos or neglects to per forin the duties prescribed by this act is liable to a fino of ten dollars. ADULTERATION OF DAIRY PRODUCTS. Any person who shall manufacture or have in possession with intent to sell, any oloomargorine or any compound to take the place of butter or cheese produced from pure unadnlturated milk or cream, which covers all mixtures of lard or tal low with butter for sale as a'u article of food, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor aud upon conviction shall pay a fine of net less than 100 nor more than $300 and an imprisonment in the county jail of not less than ten days nor more than thirty days for tho first offense. Each subse quent offonse one year's imprisonment. It is the duty ot constables to report any violation of this act in making their re turns to court. criminals mat tkstify. The directors may purchaso out of the school funds the best books for use in the schools of the district and furnish them free of cost for the use of the pupils. A SCHOOL MONTH. A common school month shall consist of 20 days actual teaching and no school shall be kept open on Saturday, legal hol iday or during the time of holding the county institute. WITNESS FEES. In all civil or criminal cases before jus tices of the peace, witnesses will be al lowed 50 cents a day and 3 cents a mile for going and returning.
