Pub lished by Tbomes A Talbot, 23 Haw ley Street, Boston. Destructive Fire. On Monday about noon, as the children of Hon. E. L. Davis were burning some refuse in the garden, which had been collected and piled up about 50 feet from the barn, tho wind blowing directly toward the bare, it caught fire near the roof and burned to the ground. Our reported called on Mrs. Davis shortly after the fire and obtained tbe following facts : Ou Saturday a very large pile of weeds and dead vines had been raked together near the barn, which Mrs. Davis said they intended to burn on Monday night. The children went into ihs garden and set fire to the pile of weeds. In the barn was a barrel of oil which had leaked several gallons and ran eut over some dry weeds near the barn, which caught from the pile of burning weeds, and in a moment tho barn was iu flames. When first discovered the entire roof was on fire. The b'lilding was a large roomy structure, well constructed, and in it Was about $500 worth of other pro perty belonging to Mr. Davis and Mr. L. R. Freemau, of Warren. Tbe en tire loss is about $1000. OIL NOTES. Johnson, Murphy A Co.'a wildcat, on lot 3,561, Forest County, is reported enut down, ana a mystery. A year ago several of the scouts organized tbe tbe Hoodoo Oil Company, and drilled a well on tract 3,668. It was drilled dowu to the Elk County sand and abandoned. At tbe proper level the drill passed through the Cherry Grove saud, and a small show of oil was found in it, but it wa never tested there. The Johnson well was drilled, to the west of this, in hopes of finding the Cherry Grove sand there. Grandin twenty-three is through the saud and did not get the good streak at tbe bottom of the sand. It made 136 barrels the first twenty-four hours, according to a gauge. The Derrick gives the gauges of the Balltown and Cooper fields, April 10th, astfollows: Balltown, 78 wells, 2, 553 barrels: Cooper, 194 ells, 4,881 barrels ; total, 272 wells, 7,434 barrels. The gauge of the same field March 20th were: Balltowu, 76 wells 3,377 birrels; Cooper, 182 wells, 5,958 bar rels ; total, 258 welis, 8,335 barrels, These two reports show an increase of 14 wells, and a decline of 901 barrels Balltown shows a decline of 824 bar rels, and Cooper tract a decline of 77 barrels. Two new wells were aided to the list iu Balltown and twelve on the Cooper tract. Iu Balltown twenty three wells havo been torpedoed since the last report, and twenty two on the Cuoper tract. At Balltown some of the wells, and principally those along the line where the Howe and the Por cupiue Oil Companies' preperties join, have been torpedoed so often, that nitro -glycerine has very little effect on them now. .
