The Free Methodist camp meeting is already billed for tlio cumin summer at Tionesta. Wonder if the Tidimita navee will go down. Tid ionic News. Ifso, wc mggest a larger boat or less hevr this time. Tho greeubackers of this county are just now engaged tearing the clothes off some of the prominent membeis trying to pull them out for office. Erecting 'booms" when uo ono seems to be in a booming mood is up-hill work. Mr. J. E. Hillard, teacher in the advanced room, was before the board of directors charged with inflicting too Severn punishment on scholars. The board voted him an extra supply of birch rods, but requested him not to "bear on" quite so hard next time. Hon. Wm. F. Wheeler and wife of Portland, N, Y., parents of Hon. N. P. Wheeler, of our county, are vis iting their son at East Hickory, we understand. Mr. Wheeler is well known in this county as one of the original firm of Wheeler, Dusenbury & Co. Messrs. Will Clark and Johnny Thompson, started for Kansas yester day morning. Their objective point is Plea?:uitou, some distance fouth webt of Kansas City, where they pro pose to settle if the location is favora ble. If they conclude to stny and th country suitj them others will follow shortly. We are sorry to lose such excellent young citizens from our county, but our lobs may be their gain, ana we wibh them ubuudunce of prosperity. The boro and township officers elected at the late spring elections were sworn in on Monday. It remains now to be seen what sot of "galoots" we will have to reign over us for the next year to come. He and Mr, Bacon are out in the beech woods on a prospecting tour at present, and if they see any pigeons flying, will probably just let 'em fly. --Tubbs Run is being cleaned out for the purpose of driving bolts to Jamicson & Copcland's mill at tbe mouth of the run. Bracket dams will be necessary in order to carry out this plan, and these will be put in f'oith with. The arrangement will do away with a great deal of heavy hauling over rough roads. Bradford experienced another scorching on Friday last. The fire broke out at five o'clock iu the morn ing, und spread with such rapidity that three 9creJ were burned over before it was got under control. Several large hotels and many of the bent bus iness blocks were destroyed. One man was burned to death. The loss is over $100,000. Col. Reisinger, of Meadville, ac companied by his eon, Paul, has the honor of slipping in here on the first day of the season, and without asking permission from anybody, "gobbling up" several nico strings of the "speck led beauties." The Colonel prides hitiiself that he has few equals and no superiors in the art ot catching trcut, but he's never been out with (is yet. The Independent Press of Frank lin, hits the nail square on the bead in this wise : "Why is it that a teacher may have a high degr.ee of success in one school and almost entirely fail in another? tho difference U caused by the influence of the homes upon the children. To work against a teacher is not a sign of culture in auy com munity." Jatnieson & Copeland's mill at Tubbs Run is kept busy sawing "bill stuff," a great deal of which is used by the Railroad Co. Quite a nice lot of oak, pine and hemlock timber is piled about the mill, which gives the place a buKi'ness-like air. Some parties are building a barge there which is to be used for transporting ice from Henry's Bend to Oil City during the coming summer. Work on the r.ew F. M. Church in this place fans already begun. The edifice will be 30x45 feet, and will be finished up in a neat and ta-ty manner. Mr. X. S. Foreman has taken the con tract of putting up the building, and has articled to have it completed, ready for occupansy, by the first of July. The entire cost, lot and all, will be betweeu $1,000 and $1,100, nearly $900 of which have already been raised. The Derrick's oil report for March shows a large increase in the number of wells drilling and completed over Fehruary, all of which is very dis couraging to producers. The number of wells drilling was increased 106, while the number of rigs built was decreased 15. The increase in wells completed is 87, and the production was increased 673 barrels. In the meantime the market is hovering in the eighties. The second term of Prof. Peck's singing school closed last night. His scholars have all made rapid progress in the musical line and are loth to part with him, but his time, for a while at.least, will be so taken up else where as to make it impossible to teach another term at present. The musical conventiou which was to take plhce at the close of this term has been postponed until some time in May or June, when the weather gets pleasanter, which is a wise conclusion. Prof. Peek leaves with the best wishes of all. The little ones love it, and ofteu cry for more hat? "Dr. Sellers' Cough Syrup," which cures them of cough9, colds, and whooping cough. For pale by Bovard. '2 2t. There has been for several eve ningioflate an interesting peries of meetings in the Presbyterian Church. Rev. McLaughlin, of Pleasautville, was the minister. He seemed to be a favorite with all denominations. He seems to have any amount of zeal and earnestness in the reat cause, with the faculty of presenting the truth in an acceptable, attractive manner. All who love the tnlth iu its purity could not be otherwise than pleased with him. On Sabbath, April 4. commun ion services were held. The church was well filled. This is mentioned because one fact is worthy of notice, (not that the people of Tionesta are good church goers only,) but that the communicants was far greater than the number of spectators. This speaks well for this community. All the evangelical bodies in the place were represented, showing sincerity in the great work, which is a high commentary on the Christianity iu the place, and speak volumes for the sounuuess of their faith. Considerable moving and chang ing of residence has taken place since our last issue. Mr. Joseph Grove, who hr.s purchased Mr. WolcottV house, bus moved in, the latter gentle man taking possession of Mr. G.'s late residence, Mr. Z. T. Snriver occupying part of the house. Mr. John Hart has rented and moved into the Agnew house. Mr. Eli Holeman has moved to town and occupies his beautiful res idence, the Dale homestead. Mr. Dithridge has re-moved to his former place across the creek, and John Wal ters, who just vacated tho place has moved into the house at the west end of the creek bridge, recently occupied by Geo. Carr, who now occupies the rooms over Carson's jewelry store. Mr. J. S. Hood's family have moved out on their farm, two miles from town, on tho Tylersburg road, and Prof. Brock way has rented Hood's house. If any other changes have taken place they have escaped our notice. The following officers of Tionesta Lodge, ifo. 369. I. O. of O. F., were installed by D. D. G. M , C. A. While riding ahorse the animal stumbled and fell throwing Mr Young in such a manner as to break his leg. We were unable to learn the particulars, or which leg was broken, but understand it was a com pound fracture. Dr. Wilson of Pleas untville was called. This is a very distressing accident for Mr. Young, as it will prob ibly lay him up the greater part of the summer, just w hen his at tention is badly needed on the farm. We hpe he may speedily recover. By the assistance of a "pond-fresh" our lumbermen were enabled to get a large amount of lumber out of the creek, yesterday and the day before. Quite a number of rafts came out from as far up as Buck Mills. Wheeler & Dusenbury, Russell, Root & Watson, Ford & Lacy all got out with some of their lumber. The creek is full of lumber from the mouth to several rods above the bridge, but very little of it will get away on this rise, as the river is falling, and there is scarcely enough water to get over the dam. May &, Kelly succeeded in booming the most of their logi ; a few of thtni, however were lost, as is the case gen erally in driving logs.
