At this particular timo, while the sleighing is good, there is a great de mand for teams, to haul lumber, tim ber, tan-bark, frieght, &c. A great many of our citizens who have been teaming iu the oil regions, especially about Edonburg and Elk City, are coming brick to do the hauling herea bouts, notwithstanding tho fact that the wages are considerably lower here than there. The reason riven for this is, that feed is very dear, and it is nl most impossible U get comfortable stabling for their horses, in said re gion. Business in this direction will be brisk for some time to come,-if the sleighing continues. "The Weekly News Almanac, for 1877," published by Chas. E. White, ef the Tidioute News, is on our table, and is a valuable publication, on ac count of its chronology, which tretits not only of the happenings of Tidioute and i'.s immediate vicinity, but of the surrounding country, including events in TioneBta, and other parts of Forest county. It is gotten up in a style that is ahove criticism, and is a credit to both Mr. White and the News office There remains but a few days of tho hunting season, and the weather is nil that can be desired for sucsessful still-hunting. It is probable that thero are more hunters in tho woods of Forest County this season, than ever at one time before. The number of der slain, however, is hardly as large as usual. Some of the largest deer we have ever seen, however, have been killed ihia season. We aro prepared to do any amount of iob work, at livinir rates, and to "tiarantee satisfaction. We are not however, so terribly industrious at to work fr pastime, rs some firms seem to 1m whu canvass this faction for job work. Wo propose to charge a little more than the blank paper costs, when we furnish said paper aud do the print ing. If you w ish a good job at low figures, give us a call. Court has ben in session this week, hearing the evidence in the con tested election case. The court goe3 to Brookstou this afternoon to take.dep ositious. M. Ittel jr., has been taking out some square timber on the land of the Winslow Petroleum Co., in Kingsley two., for Messrs. May & Kelley. It is put in the Creek at Crowfoot Bar, little above Jug Handle. There are about 70,000 cubic feet of the timber and it is said to be a fine lot, some of it beins 76 feet Iouk and wiuaring 36 inches. Teamb Wanted immediately, for Bark Hauling, at Brookston Tannery, Bro kttou, Forest Co., Pa. They aro going (o have a Teach ers' Institute in Clarion next week ; so if any of our teachers arc still unsatis fied, after this week's experience, they nan give Clarion county the benefit of their presence and assistance. -The bears of ike Oil Exchange seem to have tolerable success in keep ing down the price of crude oil, in the face of everything that would natural ly tend to make the producer hold on for higher prices. ' y The Clarion Democrat congratu lates Gen. Seth Clover on his good luck. The oil well on the Gates farm, of which he is the principal owner, was completed Inst week, and is doing 15 barrels. With oil at over $4 00, that is a nice thing. Hunter's well Is pumping, but we have not been able to get any reli able information as to the amount of nil it is producing. It is estimated. at from four to seven barrels. A wooden Hank has been built near the well to bold the production, and .to enable the producers to hold the frrt' for higher prices. Western Correspondence. Lone Rock, Riciiland Co:, Wis., ) Dec. V, 1876. J d. Republican : After quite a silence, once-more crave space in your paper for a few jottings from the Northwest. We are having quite a severe spell of cold weather, causing the mercury to drop below zero for several days, and, although we have but three inche3 of snow, sleighs are called into use, and wagons aud carriages are dispensed with for the present. Deer huutiog is the principal amuse ment here at present, and many of those timid animals have been killed. for the deer nrn so numerous, back iu the timber, that the snow has the ap pearance of large droves of sheep, by the trick 8. All is quiet in political circles, ex cept the so-ityled "reformers" impa- tieutly waiting to lenru the fiuul re sult, hoping that it will be favorable to their getting the post offices, for we lave quite a number of Democrats lere that resemble Nasby as far as principle is concerned. At a horse race here en the second iust., two men got into a dispute; the result was that one of the parlies was severely injured by a knife. I learn that liquor was the principal cause of the quarrel. The use of the knife and revolver is becoming very common in tho west, and it is to be hoped that stringent measures will be . used to stop their too frequent use. There has quite a number of emi grants returned from the frontier States, and are settling here. They have become discouraged by the loss of their crops, which have been destroy ed by the grasshoppers. Health is good here; in fact, I have not heard of a case of . sickness for Borne time. Produce is at low figures here, for times are rather dull. Markets here at present are as follows: Spring wheat, 90 cts. per bushel f winter wheat, 95 cts.; com, 15 to 20 cts. per buthel ; oats, 20 ctsi;.'jMitai6$iActs., and other produce' in proporlTon to the above. There has been . a great movement in the pork trade hare, some six or eight car loads per day have been shipped irom tins place, rorfc is worth five dollars per hundred live weight. Tue farmers hsre are turning their attention to raising hogs, for our corn crops are very large, aud low figures are paid for tho crop, conse quently there is a large profit on pork raising, when oorn is worth but two shillings per bushel, and dressed pork is worth eight dollars per hundred It is hoped that times will improve by spring, for money is very close at present, and no investments are made, nor will there be until it is decided who will bo our next President. Yours &c, N. B. Hood, C. E. McCray, of the Lawrence House, bas issued invitations for a Grand Party to take' place at the Lawrence House Hall on Christmas eveiiing.
