Uocser holds forth in the M. ) K. Church oil Sabbath, morning nrnl veiling. Our new town council should At tend to having the sidewalks ofonr tow: fixed up at once. Very little labor will straighten them tip no? , but every lny adds to the work. A stitjh iu lime saves nine. I. L. LVivis took a home-made raft down to Franklin last week. We I understand that he iu about to engage an (tie manufacture of engines and tjniiers in tlntt place, and that opeia lions will soon commence. A cricket club has just been fnrm- iu Tilusville. There are two or ",thne fid cricketer a nong us, and we 'don't vt why this wouldn't be n good Substitute for base bull. Perhaps the exercise wouldn't be quite so violent. A. C. Porter of the Jackon Dem- t ocrat was iu town a Suturduy and fa , vored u with a call. He is about to enlarge his paper, which is a good size. The subscr.p'iou list of that nper is - steadily growing, and its fiuuticiul success-is certain. j A "lightning" man is to put up Koine rods ou Bonner & McKay's building iu the course of a week or two. If the elec tric gentleman Van get hold of Geo. HunUr he cun prob ,ably get a joo of putting up a few on .the new bridgtt. Three iron bridges are to be put , "np in ibis county during the coining .eunimer. Bell tfc Breikeiiridge will rebuild tho river bridge ; Miller, Jam json & Co. will put a bridge across tho t creek at the mouth, and out is to be built at Lacytowo. Business, there fore, is bound to be brisk. A fiw slight skirmishes have en livened the landscnpe nod imparled an invigorating toiio to businesH, recently. , A few discolored eyes; a few tapped noses; a few hundl'uU of huir and a few broken teeth, then peace spreads her wings and fraternity is again es tablished. One fbty last" week wf noiicel nmo men trying to catch sorfre fih iu the back channel with a net. It was up-hill work and out of two hauls we saw, only one fish was caught. The ather will soon cuee up, however, aud then fish will be captured as of s yore. L. Agnew, who had the job of running Cobbs' lumber from Cooks fcurg to Pittsburgh, has finished his " job without having experienced any bad luck, and is consequently feeling ' gay. During the first of the week he ' started to Pittsburgh to help on the , Tioncsta lumber belonging to the firm. Here we are with the ground cov ered with snow on the 23d day of .April. If there's anything in the old belief, that a late spring makes good "''crops, we ihuulil have an abundant harvest this season. This kind of weather at thie time of the year, how- ever, i-cxtremcly uiicoinf'ortable and nonrlv t'vt'rvb'jdv catcht" " 1 1 rolits. The Court proclamation and trial list for May term will be noticed in to-days issue. It is understood that Judgo Trunkey, of Fraukliu will pre side during this term. M. Ittel has got his lumber job abo'it completed. We believe he sent eleven Allfghnnies to market from bcrci. He has had no backsets so fur as heard from. Tho twenty-fifth anniversarr of the pastorate of the Ilev. S. J. M. Ea ton, L). D., of Franklin, was celebrat ed by his congregation on Sunday last 20ih, and on Monday evening, 21st. Van Giesen &. Stroup will have finished their job this week. One of their Alloghauies went adrift during the high water, and they were at con siderable expense in getting it togeth er. Its glorious fun to stand around and see a lot of fellows jump, and to think how sore they will be in the morning. If any one asks you to try your skill at it have the- moral cour age and foresight to say no. As soon as the snow is fairly off our young men would do well to re organize the base ball clubs and be prepared to get back the laurals which escaped from them lust summer, all on account of bud luck. A. B. Kelly and II. II. May are down the river at present attending to receiving th"ir lumber run out from here. If we are correctly informed their lumber was rafted deeper than that of any other firm on the creek. M. G. Corry, late Captain of Co. G, 83d lieg't, is a candidate for the lUpublican nomination for the office of Prolhoiiotary of Allegheny county. Hie succcks will gratify liis numerous friends and comrades in this sectinu. A new harness shop has been started in our pluce by practical harness maker named J. B. ' Long. Ho oc cupies one side of Capt. Knox's tin shop, ami will advertise with us iu the couise of a weekbr two. Tho hens consider their spring work done, and now are all tho old plana tried again to keep them from setting. The inot auuces.iful plan we have heard of is to set otT a torpedo directly under the hen, and if she sets after that there is no hope fur her. Job work conies in apace. Just now we are rushed, hut we never lose our temper about a little tritle like that. If any one else has a job, or a number of jobs they want dooe in the highest style of tho art, why they might just as well bring them iu. Mr. Albert Shreve formerly of this place, now operating iu the oil regions of Butler county, culled upon us this nmriiiiig. He has made some good strikes, among others a wife. He is a thorough oil man, and is confi dent tlmt oil will soon bring 85 per barrel. When that timo comes he will sell his surplus oil. Forepaiigh was to "show" at Tid ioute to-day, but wo understand he gave it up on account of the weather. Quite a number of spectators were going foni here, and we presume they are very much disappointed. If any of l hem gel real wralhy about it, we would suggest that they give the amount the trip would have cost them to the SuuJ.iy School. f The Oil City river bridge has beeu the scene of s good many smash ups among the rafts for the past week. About once an hour some raft would endeavor to go over tho bridge by climbing the piers, but always came to grief. The lumber from here most ly went through all right. There has been more lumber run out from above, ou the river, this spring than we have ever before tioticed on one flood. The spring styles are coming out rapidly. The prevailing fashions are carefully studied by the fashiouable of both sexes, and many are the earnest consultations held on the momentous questiuu of "what shall we near."- If our advice has any weight with stylish persons, we would advise that do ma terial change bo niude in clothing; let each sex be designated by their usual apparel so that mistakes will be avoided.
