As we are on the eve of a very important cam paign, aud without a County Committee, is it not important that something be done in that direction ? The past has taught us what it is to permit candidates to run a cam- pa:gn to sun iteuiseives w.tnoui tmmung to govern them, and I am sure that a large majority of the Republicans of mr district the candidates could not agree upon a man to takecharge of the funds, etc.. what woui.l likely be the result ? A violation of all the rules of the party. Let ns have a committee! Let a Satur day in April be named, when the voters of each Toting precinct in the connty shall elect a committeeman, and I guarantee that a satistai-tory committee will be chosen. This election can be held in tbe afternoon and will therefore not require nine1" of a ! sacrifice on tbe part of any one. Le: those Ttrr, p:twct ,t 1; o'clock, choose one per son to hold the election. This committee cotild meet in the arbitration room in Som erset at May court, or sooner, and elect a chairman, when we would bare a commit tee regularly and fairly elected, and, I think satisfactory to all. As to tairnesa, anything is fair that is left to the voters to decide. As to pettins out the vote, if the vote is small. as it naturally will be, it will at least give us all an ptunity to assist in choosing tUs c,inlmittrt., while in any other way a few men do the work, and a majority of the election districts have nothing to say to it at ail. i A Voter j EaoTHEnsviLLET. There is an aspect of well-fed luxury about Norman H's features that be speaks a wholeeome diet, and at least eight hours sleep per night. School is Oct! Ho roa School! The public schools having closed, the question now presents itself to the parents of tbe thousands of pupils, what they are to do with them during the long vacation. Many of them have Lad good training from time to time iu their home schools, where their diligence was stimulated by tbe hope that they would sometime be p-rmitted to at tend a school of a higher grade. If tht y re main at home they will probably have to rerite the old lessons next winter, the very studies they would wih to pursue being omitted from tl.e program, either for the want of time to attend to them, or of mate rial for tbe formation of classes. Shall they realize their desires now, or most ttoey, at the last moment, be doomed to disappoint ment? No intelligent parent is likely to deny so reasonable a reo, nest, if be will but bear in mind that the great benefit of f.xxi is for the hungry, and that only while the appetite holds. How often do we hear per sons express their regret that they had not acquired a better education, sometimes joined with the bitter reflection that their I parents refused to let them go to school when thev desired it. and would have had j the best opportunity to learn ? By all j means, then, let those go to school who wish to do so, in the hope that their future lives may be crowned with usefulness and honor. This is the very best class of pupils, the pride and ornament of the normal schools. May their minds be cultivated like a gar- den,-producingthe richest fruits, divert-! tied with the beauty and fragrance of flow- ers, with never a corner for weeds ! Again, there are those whose claim b bas ed on the fact, not that they have learned well at home, bat rather that they have tailed to do so. Their appetite forstndy not yet haTing been developed, it is evi dent that they need a change of treatment. The fig-tree should not be cut down because it bears no fruit, when it may need cultiva tion alone to render it productive. Better teachers and. better methods may raise them from the very Siottgh oi Despond, and fill them with hope and courage. Some of the most famous men were regarded as mere dunces in their school-days. Was it not be cause their teachers tailed to interest them in their studies? formal schools will not only afford pupils more scope and variety, Knt mnw them to see new Keantiea in Im. . .... . ... , , j sons mer sail wiore ueewcu uissgreewute. : Parents are usually slow to perceive real Malta in their children. Then why should j they coaciode that they are too thick-head- j ed to study, before they have ascertained the i cause of their failure ? By sending them to i a good school they will at least satisfy their ; own consciences, if tbe result should still i prove unsatisfactory. But let them see to it that they select a live school, with plenty of students, where pupils may learn to study by the example of their fellows, and at the same time be sure cf finding classes to rait then. j b(jt by no m(MS u minJ K. w(j s!jou,(1 to school beca je thev have nothinK tod ).
