Ho allowed them to approach quite close to him, and when they were on tbe point of cutting at him, he deliberately walked off. They pursued him so olosely that he took refuge up a tree, from which they toon dislodged him by the aid of the dogs He now started toward tho mountain, but they kept so cloeo in bis rear that be again sought safety In a tree, but was brought down as before. In this way he arrived at the mountain, and again ok his position In a tree. Tboy, however, finally brought him down, and determining to bring matters to a climax, surrounded the tree, and at soon as he reached the ground, "went fur him," and succeed ed in cutting him severoly in the ribs. At this juncture one of tho dogs sprang upon him, but bruin gave himself one of those vigorous shakes, charac teristic of the bear species, and burled the dog some twenty feet down tho bill, after which be scrambled off among the rocks and escaped. All further search for him proved fruitlosa The pig which he embraced baa since died from tbe effects.
