JACKSON. THK ART OF 1'LYIXa. A French journal has a letter from MnJ. lid, living an account of a successful experi ment with a new apparatus for flying. The flyer was a Mr a Juanila Perez, who though rather fat and coipuleut, moved through the air, by the help of winas, with great ease and rapidity. She was advertised to fly n distance of above 1,200 feet, rising in the air above 600, but exceeded the progrnmme both in height and distance. No description of the structure of the wings i given. They have a spread of some fifteen feel, are fastened by ligaments of great flexibility, and arraneed so as to move with great ra pidity ; they make n noise like a wind mill. The astonishment of Madrid at so novel a phenomenon is described ns im mense. A Mr. Thomas Parville, at Paris, also an nounces that he has invented a complete apparatus for flying, nnd that ho proposes to exhibit it ai the Champ de Mars, in the course of the present month, when he will fly fiom the Military School to Challint. He will be accompanied by his two sons, one of twenty-two and the other of seventeen years. The preparation of three sets of wings has delayed tho exhibition until now. The inventor has tiied his apparatus pri vately, w ilh complete success, having tlown across the Seine with it at 1 o'clock in the morning. win!: have a spread of 15 feet, and by their help the flyer can move tip and down in the air with all the facility of a swallow, t-kimmitis along near the ptound or mounting upright to the sky at his pleasure. We find this statement in the New York Evening Post : The following was told us to day by a gentleman who has always sustained an un impeachable character for truth and vera city. He snid that a divine of considerable eminence in one of our sister neighboring cities, entered his pulpit last Sunday mom inp, and after wiping the perspiration from his heateil facp, very elaborately surveying the congregation from one side to the other, impressively tho broke forth : !Thii is a d n hot morning. Such, my brethren, was the startling language which met my ears as I entered the holy temple this morning, from one who. I suppose, has come here to take part in the solemn exer cises appropriated to this place nnd this holy day," &c. A WRiTFii in the Noith Carolina Sentinel expresses a wish that the devil had all the South Carolina traitors. We can't see what the devil is to do with them.
