Tin: Shkiuff of Northampton county is going to assist twelve real estate owners to dispose of their lands. Countx Superintendent election at the Court House, in this borough on Tuesday next. Several good candidates in the field from whom to make a choice. WlierctSie salary of the Superin tendent of Common Schools comes front. The election of County Superintendent 'w ill take place on Tuesday, the 4th day of "May next, at the Court House, in thi3 place. The question as to where the salary of the Superintendent comes from, and what bear ing it had on the general school fund, has long bothered School Directors, and we must acknowledge that we used to be of thatnum bcr. But bv referring to page 111 of School Laws and Decisions, and paragraph 270, it will be found that the State Superintendent has officially settled that question as follows "The salaries of County Superintendents are payable out cf the gross amount of the State appropriation. Lach (tmpennten dent) is not paid out of the gross amount or dividond of State annronriation coming to his rrorer county. This mode was adopted during the first year of the office ; has been ever since sanctioned by the Legislature in making the annual appropriations, and will be adhered to while the law remains un changed." Thus it will be seen that the school money appropriated to this couQty will not be les WMjed of any perceptible account by the Superintendent's salary whether it be one thousand, twelve hundred, or fifteen hundred dollars per annum. If the salary were in creased five hundred dollars, it would perhaps not lessen the appropriation to this county more than about seven dollars. This may appear unaccountably strange to those who h'tve not given this subject any particular at tention, but it is nevertheless a mathematica' fait; $500 divided among 70 counties wil' render this very clear. The State Superintendent recommends that the salarv be fixed before balloting for Superintendent, as the subject of salary would be more likely to be considered on its tnu merits at that time than at the close of the convention. Candidates for Governor and State Treasurer are to be placed in nomination, and we should see to it that we have a voice iu saying who they i-hail be. At no previous time in the history of party has the importance of the Conven tion and its nominees been so exalted. Un dinibtcdly he have the State in our power, b it it cannot be denied, that power will not remain with us unless we act with such cir cumspection in our nominating convention as to secure confidence and thus ensure, the union of our working material. We have no doubt but that good candidates will be selec ted in any event, but even with that belief s v do not believe it to be good policy to set juicily by and fail to take a hand in the choice of standard bearers for the campaign. On the contrary, we believe that our only true policy lies in getting up and doing, and by our earnest work give the public an as surance by more than a common display of energy and carefulness, that in voting for our candidates they will be voting for precisely the right man for the right place. Let us, therefore, nh?et and counsel together and se 3. ct a man to represent ua at Ilarrisburg. The result of last fall should teach us to dis card the idea then entertained, that all was afo, when really all was at lose ends. The eggs advertised by B. T. Wolf, another columu, will produce a first cross be twecu the celebrated Boardman Smith and Pitcairn stocks of Leghorns, and are th product of first premium imported bird; The Silver Spangled Hamburgs are from equally celebrated strains, selected by Mr, Wolf with the greatest care. Chicken fanciers would do well to make a note these facts. Our townsman, Harry S. Wolfe, in con junction with the Eilenberger brothers, has entered into a three years engagement travel as a concert troupe. There is no reason why the engagement should not prove a profitable one, for a more worthy band o sweet singers could hardly be selected. The troupe will be under the management of a gentleman belonging to Washington, N. J. whose experience in such matters eminently quality him for the position. The troup have our best wishes f or a full measure o success in every respect. The Sinking Fund Aid Society of the A M. 11 Church, of Stroudsburg, will hold a Graud Exhibition, in J. S. Williams' Hall on Thursday evening April 29th and Satur day evening, May 1st, 1875, for the benefit of Rev. J. T. Hammond, pastor in charge who will leave us on Monday, May 3d, to at tend the Philadelphia Conference, whicl meets in Ilarrisburg, May 6th. We will represent the Jubilee Singers in some of their Slave Melodies. J. QUACKO. Sr., Chairman IIattie Henry, Secy. trS We hare suggested to the Democracy f Monroe an excellent candidate for Asso ciate Judge, in our distinguished neighbor over the way, and if they do not second our motion and elect him, they will not show that have the least idea of what constitutes an appreciation of the idea of justice. The office, it is true is not much on salary af fording as it does the incumbent but $300 dollars jer annum, though even that sum is not to be sneezed at in these times but it is heavy with honor and dignit'. And where wili you find these points more certainly cen tered, or more clearly defined, than in our distinguished neighbor over the way. Look at him as he walks along the streets, and you will find him not only dignified in carriage hi id intelligent in aspect, but, also, possessed of an avoirdupois that, we will venture a wager in shape of a pound of old type, will fill the Associate Judicial chair to a nicety. If the Associate Judgeship is, as is said. altogether ornamental, we cannot conceive of a more ornameutal figure than our distin guished neighbor would cut, seated on the alter of Justice's temple, and assisting in holding the traditional scales on an even balance. Think of this Democrats, and see if your own common sense does not prompt you to say that we are right on this point, every t ime. For Associate Judge, therefore, let us all lay heartily Amandus O. Greenwald. Lot us make it unamious. The Milford correspondent of the Port Jervis Gazette, says: 4 'That Aaron Crook proprietor of the Stroudsburg and Milford stage route, aud John Findlay, proprietor o the Milford and Port Jervis route, will con solidate and run a line of stages betwee Milford and Dingman's Ferry, during the coming Summer. The advertisement of Leander Emery, in another column, is worthy of special notice and mention. Leander will be remembered as a former .steady, industrious, honest sober Stroudsburg boy one whose memories left behind him here are all to his advantage He is a young man, yet skilled in his calling, and we are satisfied that all who patronize him, in his line of business, will be justly arid honorably dealt with.
