TERRIBLE ACCIDEUT IS THE SCHCTLEILL Countt Mines— Four men and two Boys precipi tated a depth of fu-o hundred and forty feet and dashed to pieces —We are pained to announce the occurrence of a and catastrophe, the result it is to bo feared of carelessness. It appears that about noon on Taesday Ust, four men and two boys ascended the shaft at the Tbomastown col liery in a car resting on a cage. When within a few Inches of the top, a pin, upon which tho caco rests when it reaches tho top, was pulled out too soon, os tho oar was not on a level with the platform sufficiently to permit it to be rolled off the cage. In this position two wheels of tho car wore rolled off the cage; bnt it was found impossible to get the other wheels off. A signal was then given to the engineer, who could net see the position of the cage, to hoist it a little. Unfortunately, it was hoisted too high; the car Lilted was freed entirely from the cage, and the next instant, with its freight of precious lives, consisting of four men and two boys, was dash ' ed down tho shaft, a perpendicular depth of two hundred and forty feet. Tho remaius of tho unfortnnato men and boys were, after the occurrence, removed to the surface iu a shock iogly mutilated condition. Two of the men killed, named Sollivon and Kenwich, leave fam ilies. Tbo other two, one of whom was named Brennan, were unmarried. The name* of the two boys wo have not learned. —Miners Jour. The Buffalo Commercial Adcertiter thus alludes to the Railroad Convention held In that city: “Roads, the managers secO to think, are built for competition, not moocy-roaking. Cleujcal Honaswiuprisa.—-The ItomaoCalh olio clergy have adopted a summary modo of checking the "great social evil.” A Longford paper says that as a priest was passing through that town the other day, be noticed an unfortu nate woman on the road.
