IMMME Malt or ISE three elementi . upon which the Butb.spiers rely inthis canvass are fraud, lying and raecality. 1 1 We have already pointed out one of their schetnes to mislead the publie—a coalition be tweesi the Catholics and the Fillettoth Know Nothings—to spread belief in the infamous lie that Fremont is cm has been a Catholic. In oar paper a few days ago we charged that there was each a coalition, and that the Buchanan men were urging it on with all their might, as e m ir only, chance of esivation. The proof of this coalition is now before the public in a Jesuitical letter from Gilbert SlaSlaster, editor of the Catholic Freeman's Journal, which he volunteers for the purpose of inducing the belief that Fre- Mont wan once a Catholic. The - Buchanan and Minors leaders grab at it as & godsend, and 'parade it with a deal of chuckling. Indeed it is . hard to tell which of the two—the Democrats or the ifindoos—rejoice over it most, so close is the. present on between them. In ordinar matters, these ilindoos affect to regard a Catholic as unworthy of belief—ne one who will swear to a lie and whose creed it is to tell s falsehood whenever the purposes of his faith are to be eubserved by it; bet thin testimony is swallowed without question, and one so much gospel. The Catholics may . congratalath them selves upon the improved' estimation in which they are held by their enemies. The letter of Mr. McMaster does not say dhat Col. Fremont is or ever :retell Catholic—nor does it even undertake to assert that be ever professed to be one; but Mr. McMaster alleges that (j—(there is great iirtue in an if-) that if Col. Fremont will come out and say over his own signature that he never •• was a Catholic, that, thm he, Mr. MoMnster, will prove that CoL F. at one time profamd to be a Catholic. That is the utmost he promises to prove, and ho will only undertake to prove that, whm Col. Fremont denies it over his own signature. He feels con fident that Col F., acting upon the basis marked out by himself at the opening of the canvass, will not do any such thlug; and he therefore deems himself safe in offering to prove what ho cannot, the contingency on which tee offer le made not being likely to happen The whole letter is a pieoo of - ' ' • soy. No such sheers were given. As an-evidence of the MI. timents of Jobs -Ball and Louis Napoleon, we ootaniend to the Gazette's notice the following ex tracts. Here, the Union from which wo clip the above gives certain extracte from the London Chronicle, Star, Bath Tri/nme and Paris Moniteur. Now as it regards the charge at "ridiculous falsehood" tee con prove what we allege, by three gentlemen who eland ready to t:r.ra their oath that they heard She cArcis given. When the Past disputed the declaration which was made relative to the "cheero" in another paper of this city, a gentle man from Now York who was at that time stop ping at the St. Charles wrote as a note stating that he was on the ground and heard the cheers. He wrote down.the sentiment which evoked the sheen end eald that be was ready to swear to the fact, He was astonished that any one could have the hardihood to deny it when the thing occurred in the preeence of hundreds who bad assembled herO on the 10th. Now as regards -the sentiment; of Lzais.lia poleon or of John Bull we do not know as it should make any partitiolar difference to us whether they want Fremont or Buchanan elect ed. We know moreover that all the English pa pets quoted speak their own sentiments; that they wish to see Fremont elected because they look with detestation upon the robbery contemplated and boldly mapped out in the Ostend Manifesto, as does every christian who has road the Bible or who carries with' him the recollection of the ()Olden Rule. Who can wonder that this contest engages the attention of the civilized world lb Southern manor their defenders suppose they Can brow-beat humanity into a recognition of their right to extend their cures over the vir gin soil of the West ? The New York Courier and Enquirer in'apeak. lag of this very matter says most justly that the lames now bear directly upon great concerns of humanity and civilization. So long as the nations oars for the observance of international jostles raid the Maintenance of international law, and so long as the 'people of Christendom do not sink beneath the sentiment of the Pagan poet, ol am a man, and there Is nothing-human which does not concern ;My' it cannot be that they shall not feel a deep Interest in the failure of a struggle in the first of nations, for the extension and consolidation of cdnattel Slavery, and the es toblisnment of the nett-tangled filibustering doo trines of the Ostend pirenlar. We have no right to complain of this to do eo, is to claim that we are not within the' pale of humanity and the fami ly of nations. This contest is a contest between Freedom and Slavery, end between Jostles and Spoliation.
