He bad watched the Dr. and his colleague, Capt. The speaker turned around to him, and soon became involved in a very warm controversy, which was about merging inta_a fight, when such a result was prevented by the interference of friends. Hisses and applause,• shouts, laughter and invective then arose from every quarter, in the midst of which the gentleman endeavored to proceed with his speech.) lie contended that no such or any other reso lution could be then considered. That was not the place to argue on the.merits of the Nebraska, Bill. He was ready at any time to meet Di." McCook, or any other person on the subject.— The principle of the bill was freedom of making their own form of Government, a principle fought for in the revolution. It was for the hardy sens of Nebraska to say sthother there, sheuld be eta: very or not. But this was not the place to argue it. Capt. Ward demanded a free discussion. Nine out of every ten democrats in the county were in favor of the spirit of the resolUtion. [Shouts of approbation] He - would move the resolution as an amendment. Let them take e vote ,an it. Mr. M'Clowry followed, denouncing Dr. Mc- Cook as a disorganizes, denting uMt that was, the place to argue tho question* on its Tho bill was presented by a distinguished Dem ocrat, upheld b 7 Democrats, and involved a democratic principle. He applauded him him self, through not agreeing in his sentiments, for that manliness. lie should never cast up to him that he came from Ohio with Abolition doctrines. All parts of the Union wore one and the same: That young-man, (referring to the Dr.) had made -a most brilliant speech, (loud applause,) replete with the most beautiful sentiments.. (From this point tho speaker balanced himself in the hap piest and most skilful manner on 'the fence, so that it was imposiible for the most discriminating of his audience to decide what his opinions really were on the resolution, except that he wanted and effectually aneceeded in killing it, by his pe culiar non-conuflittal style.) But, continued the Judge, that was not the place for its considers= lion. The County Committee called the Con vention to elect delegates, and not to discus principles. The speaker confirmed in this strain for some time, and closed by moving that the amendment be laid on the table, and that the. subject be referred to the Democratic party at - , Warti'l meetings.. Motions to adjourn, to lay ererit Ling on • tho table, and cries of order filled the room. AS the President attempted to put one motion, henna interrupted by a demand for another, FO that that officer became so confused, that Thomas Moffitt, one of the Vice Presidents, in his ansie ty to relieve him, took hip onerous duties upon his own shoulders, which the Convention soon, perceiving, interfered with in the most sum mary manner by shouts of derision, and cries of "take your seat," Mr.:Moffitt was obliged to re linquish the attempt. At this moment, an outsider, in tho lobby, Ts C. Ritchie, mounted a bench and demanded a hearing as a freeman. - •L We takeAhe folhmting interresting account of the preactitationOt'n S.llrer Pitcher to Mrs. Ma gill, from the. Erie Gazette:.
