B rarer, of Company -B, 119th Regiment P.*»Y., son of a well-known alderman of Philadelphia, who Wftß among the first to unite with the regiment, fell mortally, wounded by a shell while in the rifle pit near Spottsylvania Court House, Vir- Einia, on the 10th day of last. He died ia a few ours after being taken to; the field hospital. Fully conscious of his condition, lie spoke freely with the chaplain of his wife and children, and lus dear old father, and asked “if we were driving the rebels V* On being informed that we were doing well he repliftd “Thank God for that. st His suffering was not so ex treme as some others, although his thigh .was torn nearly from his body. He bore his pain with the forti tude of a soldier, and had full confidence in the mercies of a gracious God. With a prayer for his dear family and nis county, he yielded his life a sacrifice and an offering on the altar of Liberty. Ho now sleeps with many of his comrades who foil on that eventful day.
