To Makebb, Sellers, and Usees OP UNLICENSED SEWING MACHINES. THE UHDEBSIGUED ire owner, of many PATENTS for SEWING MACHINES, and as persons not harlni means to par damages for Infringement are making and selling Sewing Machines without license, we are com pelled to look for damages to those who BUY and USE the Machine*, as wtll as to those who make or sell * Attorneys are employed throughout the United States in finding persons who are making, bellinc*, or USING Bowing Machine* in violation of our patents; and all persons so engaged who shall not voluntarily‘settle for the same, and desisUherefrom. will be prosecuted. Some persons may suppose that buying and paying for spurious machines give the right to USE them. This is a mistake, as will be seen by the following extract from accent decision of tbe United States Circuit Court for the Southern District of New York: “The respondent alleges, in mitigation of the ment which the Court lias power to Indict, that he woe ‘ deceived by the person who sold him the machine which lie fcas used in vicl- tion of the mandate of the Court. • He avers- that the seller told him that those only who 'made and sold the spurious Sewing Machine were 11a *ble, ard not those who merely used them. Thel&u -4 guage of the injunction is. however, explicit on that ‘point. It prohibited the use, &b well as the sale and 4 manufacture. “The respond ei t claims that he is a Foreigner by birth, and ignorant of the English language, and, therefore, did not understand cleaTly the purport of the inj unc tion. This i 6 no excuse.
