BTOLIN MONEY RICOVERRD.—We noticed few days ago that a gentleman named John Rob inson had been robbed of $1,600 in Lawrence. Title. A young fellow named Charles Rankin was suspected of knowing something of the oo cnrrence, and a watch was secretly kept upon his movements by officer Smith, of that Bor ough. On Wednesday evening, while at the St. Clair Hotel, in a partially intoxicated condi tion, ho acknowledged that he had taken the money, and informed Mr. Smith that it could be found in an out building belonging to the es tablishment. On proceeding to the place indi cated, the whole amount, with the exception of about $9O, was recovered. We believe, no prosecution will be institnt d against Rankin. This discovery of the stolen money exhonerates Mr. Harvey Donaldson, (who was held to bail on suspicion of participating in the robbery,) from all blame, and ho will be (if not already) released from bail. • Durrarcr COURT —Before Hon. The different banks are discounting very liberally the State'sas paper offered. Good paper is comparatively scarce. Street shavers have rather a poor chance these days, and the low water mark In this line of business of itself speaks of ease and health in monetary affairs. No one hears anything about want of money, and we find very few merchants or business men why will say they are "hard up." As the Spring trade is dressing to a close it is becoming less active cash day ; and, although the amount of business bee not been a very extensive one, still all are contented and satisfied with what has been done. We scarcely hoar a single murmur at this, but rather to the contrary. rope seems to shod its exhilerating rays on the path of every one interested to the prospects of the future, and well may we all. The disastrous year of 1884 will linger long in the memory of every business man, to be remembered with feelings of tie deepest regret. But the contrast is great. Th. year '55 opens with prospects of the very brightest nature; and, as the season advances it brings renewed evidences that all is right so far, and that we shall be gratified to the full extent of oar wishes Be far as crops are concerned. We have observed but few reasons indeed in which so much deep solicitude seemed to be enlisted, as the present—all are lotereated—hence every one observes with deep interest everything for good or evil. Wool speculations, we think, won't extend to the same degree as in last year. Most of men who enter in the trade now will see the end clear before they attempt it. Pry dente and caution to a greater degree will ba exercised, and operations will be of a more healthy character. There Is still too much of the spirit of speculation for general good. The disposition to monopoly exists In thin article, as In almost every other, and a combination entered into to extort front the necessities of the consumer to the enriching of the avaricious and selfish speculator. The Pittsburgh Truer Company have declared their sem annual dividend of five per cent. A suit for usury has been entered against a banker o this city. We dislike to bear of anything of this character, and earnestly look for the day when money will take Ito place, as tiny other commodity of the country—not governed by the ungenerous law which now rf gull - ties rates, ac.
